Will Klipsch Hardware and Dirac Optimisation Prove a Killer Combo?

With a heritage that dates back to 1946, US-based loudspeaker firm Klipsch has a reputation for high-quality products. More recently, it has branched into headphones and earphones, with even a True Wireless model in its range.

Hailing from Sweden, the fifteen-year-old firm Dirac Research firm is best known for audio processing algorithms. Its room optimisation technology is found embedded in higher-end home theatre equipment, including NAD, Arcam and a $32,000 model from Focal.

The two companies have now announced a coming together for a collaboration which will see new Klipsch earphones incorporating Dirac technology to, as they say, “unleash the full potential of the earphones.”

Lars Isaksson, Business Director at Dirac, said:

Collaboration with Klipsch – a legendary acoustics pioneer – further establishes our position as an innovator in the headphone market and reasserts our commitment to working closely with premium brands to leverage the latest in digital audio to elevate hardware performance to new levels.

On the collaboration, Dirac says that its sound optimisation solution “corrects the impulse and frequency response of any headphone to upgrade its musical staging, clarity, voice intelligibility, and bass fidelity. The solution reveals even the most subtle beats, tones and sounds that can be lost during the playback process to produce a listening experience more true to the artists' intent.”

Klipsch is also very positive about the collaboration, noting that:

By working with Dirac, we combine our decades of headphone expertise with their digital audio expertise to introduce to our customers a new level of listening experience across Klipsch headphones. Dirac shares our commitment to excellence and innovation, and we look forward to continued collaboration.

We're going to have to wait a little while before we see the results of the collaboration. The new earphones are planned for launch in the Northern Hemisphere fall, so some time from late September. It seems that they will be true wireless models.

Klipsch's last word on them for the moment:

The upcoming Klipsch earphones are designed for True Comfort™, True Performance™, and True Wireless™, and deliver audiophile-grade sound, seamless connectivity and advanced functionality for people on the go.

We do look forward to tasting the fruits of the new relationship between Klipsch and Dirac Research later this year.
