KEF LSX Soundwave Limited Edition Available Now

It's rather hard to believe that KEF's LSX wireless speaker system is approaching two years old already. The revolutionary smaller sibling to the now-famous LS50 Wireless has proved a big success for the iconic British manufacturer.

In many ways, the LSX left nowhere for the company to go when you consider nothing was left out. Spotify, TIDAL, Roon, Airplay2, a multitude of inputs including Bluetooth 4.2 - it's all there. Then came an assortment of stands and brackets, and a whole palette of colours to choose from.

A couple of years ago, I was lucky to spend some time in the KEF Music Gallery in Hong Kong, the company's Asia Pacific flagship store. What struck me was not the product range itself, which I was already very familiar with, but the interior design of the Gallery itself. Rich woods, sharp straight lines, earthy tones, all setting a calm and relaxed mood thanks to clever use of lighting. Until today, I never knew (nor asked) who had been responsible for this contemporary if not edgy design.

So as the press release hit my inbox this morning announcing a new colourway for LSX exclusively designed by Terence Conran, I dug deeper. The Conran Group led by Terence were responsible for the stunning Music Gallery in Hong Kong that had left me so impressed during my visit.

According to KEF, in his long and celebrated career, “Terence Conran didn't merely change the rules of design, he created a whole new game.”  Fuelled by a passion for the modern movement and its benefit to society, Sir Terence's astonishing breadth of work encompasses everything from furniture to product design, restaurants, architecture, fabric, fashion, retail and literature. And now, it seems, they've turned their attention to the KEF LSX loudspeakers.

The LSX Soundwave edition is encased in a fabric created by Danish contemporary textile designer, Kvadrat. The LSX Soundwave features a stunning soundwave pattern developed by Conran, while aspects of the driver, as well as the rear port, are finished in Conran's signature blue; subtle details that assert a presence and personality to work in any space.

Did we mention it's exclusive? A total of only 20 pairs are available to Australia. Ten pairs will be available from KEF Elite retailers, Melbourne HiFi and Brisbane HiFi, while the remaining pairs will be available to purchase at www.kefhome.com.au.

Available now, the KEF LSX Soundwave sells for $2,195 RRP.

    applause awards

Each time StereoNET reviews a product, it is considered for an Applause Award. Winning one marks it out as a design of great quality and distinction – a special product in its class, on the grounds of either performance, value for money, or usually both.

Applause Awards are personally issued by StereoNET’s global Editor-in-Chief, David Price – who has over three decades of experience reviewing hi-fi products at the highest level – after consulting with our senior editorial team. They are not automatically given with all reviews, nor can manufacturers purchase them.

The StereoNET editorial team includes some of the world’s most experienced and respected hi-fi journalists with a vast wealth of knowledge. Some have edited popular English language hi-fi magazines, and others have been senior contributors to famous audio journals stretching back to the late 1970s. And we also employ professional IT and home theatre specialists who work at the cutting edge of today’s technology.

We believe that no other online hi-fi and home cinema resource offers such expert knowledge, so when StereoNET gives an Applause Award, it is a trustworthy hallmark of quality. Receiving such an award is the prerequisite to becoming eligible for our annual Product of the Year awards, awarded only to the finest designs in their respective categories. Buyers of hi-fi, home cinema, and headphones can be sure that a StereoNET Applause Award winner is worthy of your most serious attention.
