Hi-Fi Show: Epson TW-7100 4K Projector Launch

Established AV distributor, Westan is set to excite at this year's StereoNET Melbourne HiFi Show. Not only will they be exhibiting Epson's highly anticipated EH-TW7100 4K home theatre projector, but they'll also show off Polk's new Legend loudspeakers for the first time in Australia.

Epson's new release replaces the outgoing EH-TW6100 1080p projector and is set to deliver 4K picture performance at a previously unheard of price-point from the Japanese manufacturer.

Like other Epson projectors, the EH-TW7100 is built upon 3-chip LCD technology and boasts 3,000 lumens and a contrast ratio of 100,000:1.

Just like the EH-TW9400 that StereoNET reviewed in May, the EH-TW7100 uses Epson's latest iteration of the companies pixel-shifting technology. Epson is quick to point out that there's more to it than just pixels when it comes to 4K Ultra HD.

In this regard, the EH-TW7100 uses Epson's new 4K PRO-UHD technology, which is an umbrella term built around three key aspects: high brightness, intense colour and high detail. The new Epson which incorporates lens vertical and horizontal lens shift is quoted as being cable of producing images up to 500”.

The EH-TW7100 can also upscale non-native 4K content and is 3D compatible. It hosts a range of connection options, including 2 HDMI inputs, 2 USB 2.0 inputs, a stereo mini-jack audio out and Bluetooth, enabling it to be coupled with Bluetooth devices including soundbars.

Epson's EH-TW7100 claims a lamp-life of up to 5,000 hours in ECO mode with a 3,000 hour or 36-month warranty. The Projector itself carries a two-year warranty.

Just as synonymous as the Epson name is to projectors, Polk is too when it comes to loudspeakers. Westan will take the wraps off Polk's new Legend series of speakers in the Victoria Room at this year's show.

Incorporating home theatre and stereo speakers alike, Polk's manifesto was to build the finest loudspeaker the American designer has ever made.

The range consists of the L100 and L200 stand-mount speakers, L400 centre channel, L600 and L800 floor standing speakers and L900 height modules.

Forty years of experience has led to the creation of Polk's new Hi-Res certified Pinnacle Ring Radiator Tweeter. The Pinnacle Tweeter is said to not only deliver ultra-clear, crisp highs but a broader sweet spot.

Likewise, the Legend's new Turbine Cone™ has been designed to ensure natural reproduction of the mid-range, while the damped rear-chamber defeats unwanted resonances and ringing. The Turbine geometry is said to reproduce smooth, detailed mid-range that Polk's claims is “utterly lifelike.”

Polk's engineering team has also poured significant time and resources into fine-tuning the Enhanced Power Port. The new design minimises turbulence and noise from the ports, resulting in a smoother transition of airflow from the speakers, yielding tighter, louder and cleaner bass.

The L900 height modules are designed to create a more immersive listening experience with Dolby Atmos, DTS:X and other immersive sound formats.

Explicitly designed as height speakers, Polk's engineering team has placed the L900's drivers alongside one another for improved phase and time alignment. This allows sound to bounce off the ceiling, creating a broader sweet spot with immersive sound formats.

Polk's floor standing L800's feature the company's latest iteration of their Stereo Dimensional Array (SDA) surround technology. The newly patented design employs a “Head Shadow” filter in the dimensional array to “more closely match and cancel out interaural cross-talk.”

The results are said to both remove the need for toe-in and produce the most detailed lifelike and detailed imaging you've ever heard.

Westan will exhibit Epson's EH-TW7100 home theatre projector and Polk's Legend series loudspeakers in the Victoria Room at the Pullman Hotel, Queens Road, Albert Park from October 18-20. Tickets on sale now.

    applause awards

Each time StereoNET reviews a product, it is considered for an Applause Award. Winning one marks it out as a design of great quality and distinction – a special product in its class, on the grounds of either performance, value for money, or usually both.

Applause Awards are personally issued by StereoNET’s global Editor-in-Chief, David Price – who has over three decades of experience reviewing hi-fi products at the highest level – after consulting with our senior editorial team. They are not automatically given with all reviews, nor can manufacturers purchase them.

The StereoNET editorial team includes some of the world’s most experienced and respected hi-fi journalists with a vast wealth of knowledge. Some have edited popular English language hi-fi magazines, and others have been senior contributors to famous audio journals stretching back to the late 1970s. And we also employ professional IT and home theatre specialists who work at the cutting edge of today’s technology.

We believe that no other online hi-fi and home cinema resource offers such expert knowledge, so when StereoNET gives an Applause Award, it is a trustworthy hallmark of quality. Receiving such an award is the prerequisite to becoming eligible for our annual Product of the Year awards, awarded only to the finest designs in their respective categories. Buyers of hi-fi, home cinema, and headphones can be sure that a StereoNET Applause Award winner is worthy of your most serious attention.
