The Ministry of Economic Development undertook a Frequency re-stacking on the Kapiti Coast as trial and only a dozen or so calls but that was with only about 1000 DVB-T sets affected. Caused a bit of grief for some of the motels and apparently there were some issues with the new frequencies clashing with motel Modulators for Pay TV distribution.

Next up is Dunedin on 24 Jan and Napier and Tauranga in late Feb (dates still to be confirmed).

A screen message is displayed telling people to retune on Freeview approved sets and they have run both a helpline and a fair bit of advertising to make sure people were aware of the change.

This is all necessary prep for the switch off and is driven by the Radio frequency people in MED who obviously have an eye for how frequencies will be used after switch off.

Not sure what sort of numbers they will get in the larger centres but thankfully Auckland frequencies don't need realignment.
