Miami Vice Tv Series To Be Shown On 7mate

50 posts in this topic

New home for the TV series Miami Vice in Australia:

Channel 7 have bought the rights for 2 years for all 5 series of the show(111 episodes), and can run each episode twice for 2 runs over that period with it likely to be on the 7mate channel, but no timeslot decided yet..if they do 2 runs and show all episodes twice that means at least 2 episodes a week.

It will be interesting to see if they edit the shows as they are all around 45 to 50 minutes long, instead of the usual 42 minute shows of now, so to fit them into a one hour slot they may have to cut some parts out, which apparantly happens in other countries.

Any cable channel could acquire rights to the show during this period as well, so if TV1 wanted to show it again they could, or another channel like Universal, 111Hits, Classics etc.

So its history in Australia will be…channel 9, channel 10, TV1, 7mate

With Michael Mann’s new show Luck set to air next year on Showcase, it will be good to see Miami Vice back on TV as well.

Miami Vice begins on channel 7mateHD on Tuesday October 26 with double episodes every Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday at midday until 2pm and repeated at midnight until 2am.

The contract allows them to play all episodes of each of the 5 series of the show twice over 2 years...if they keep showing 6 episodes a week plus 6 repeats at the current rate they will have shown all episodes by early March 2011.

It appears they will run the episodes in proper order, starting with the classic movie length two part series 1 pilot 'Brothers Keeper' featuring the amazing 'In The Air Tonight' driving sequence.

I'm not 100% sure but it could be the first time in 20 years, since 1990, that Miami Vice will air on Australian free to air TV(even though its on an additional secondary digital channel) with the show also airing briefly on TV1(I think only series 1 and 2 in 2006, and possibly for a brief period early 2000s as well).

Alot of younger people will be seeing this show for the first time, and I think its great that it is again on TV here.

No show next Tues Nov 2 but returns Wed Nov 3 - not sure if this means it will be just Wednesdays and Thursdays, or return to Tues, Wed, Thurs the following week

I think Miami Vice aired on channel 9 here 1985-88 then on channel 10 here 89-90

so 20 years since it was on free to air here...it began on NBC in 1984

coincidentally check out the new Lebron James nike commercial featuring Don Johnson as Crockett...

Saw five minutes of this for the first time late last night. Yikes! The closing and opening credits look like scenes from those old Australian docos from the late 1970s which occasionally screen after midnight on Seven. That scene at the end of that first hour at the beach looked terrible too. Please tell me that isn't what it looked like to go to the beach in 1984.

After I saw that I was thinking that the series was from the '70s and it wasn't till I did some research afterwards that I found it to be from as recently as the mid-late '80s.

There's another show currently airing on 7mate, The Rockford Files, which when after I saw an early episode I thought was from the early '80s (notwithstanding how young James Garner looked because I've seen him in a few films from the '60s). Anyway, this is actually from the mid 1970s and I was quite shocked because it has held up pretty well and I'm not at all distracted like I was with those few minutes from Miami Vice.

Not sure whether things improved for MV after the pilot, but I might take another look sometime soon.

IMO MV doesn't improve. I think I watched the first few eps when it first ran and then found something better to do.

1984-1990 was its' original American run.

WOW has it been that long? I was in grade 8 or something when it first aired. I only seem to remember seeing the first season and then they changed the time slot. I found the complete DVD set at JB a while back. That opening is classic stuff and I was disappointed that the 1996 film didn't do something similar. In fact, it doesn't even have a title page and the first MIAMI VICE you see is at the end credits.

alot of people arent keen on the show, but there are those that really enjoy it

you cant please everyone and each to their own

series 1 and 2 are regarded as the best of the 5 series

I am surprised its on a FTA channel and not cable

12 to 2am is a good timeslot for the show

Mark re Miami Vice film - again alot arent keen, but alot are...about the titles, Michael Mann has been tending to not have any opening title sequences in his films since 2004, Collateral, Miami Vice and Public Enemies.
