I'm already with the Overclockers Australia folding team Mark. I think we're ranked 4th in the world at the moment. Either way, its a great cause, and an excellent initiative by Sony. The PS3 absolutely smokes when it comes to folding, the Cell processor is ideal for it. It should also be part of a standard OS install on every PC, X-Box, etc etc!

To quote from another forum I'm on

"Stanford's Folding at Home team reckon that they can replace 3 million

folding donor CPUs with 10,000 Cell processors."

I may even buy a PS3. Looks as though I may be able to claim it as a tax deduction...

Its very similar to SETI mav. I have [email protected] on 3 of my PC's at work, and 2 here at home.

You should probably pin this thread MarkH, or give it its own link somewhere. Only way to make sure it grows and doesn't vanish. It certainly doesn't deserve to. Everyone thats reading this right now on their PC's should have [email protected] running as well...

Download it here

http://folding.stanford.edu/download.html

Install it. Choose your username in the Configure section, and put 64045 as the Team Number. Too easy...

...and edit your initial post so people dont think its only an option for PS3. If you turn on a PC, and unless you're gaming, rendering etc, it should be folding...

Just trying to help.

When I first saw the thread, I thought it was some mob of perpetual poker losers! :P

Dabbled in the SETI lark right at the start, but nowadays my machine/room can't take the heat! :P

SKid,

it doesnt need to be connected to the net, it only needs to connect the very first time you start the program and when ever you have finished folding a segment (average segments take 12-18 hours). It then reconnects, send off your completed piece and downloads a new one. Each time, maybe 4MB tops, so will hardly impact on your download limit.

On another note, forum moderation have gotten back to me and have refused to pin this thread. Apparantely the Wii "sticky" is more important!
