Well I've bought one and have it setup. I have a few questions that need clarification.

1. In "Getting Started" it mentions Antenna Supply 5v On or Off.

I have a masterhead amp on the antenna. Do I still leave this at off ?

2. How do I select my favorite TV channels when doing a Timer Setting ?

When I go to select a channel it brings up the huge list rather than my shortened favorites list.

3. The RF in & out in the middle of the back is used for what ?

Does this allow you to still use the Toppy with TV's with RF in only, or is it just for switching to analogue TV through the STB.

4. Is the a TAP that jumps straight to the second EPG format ?

I'm really liking this device so far. I've currently looped the antenna 1 out into the antenna 2 in and haven't seemd to have any loss of signal which I was actually expecting as the old Strong used to have a few problems.

I'm still going through all the existing threads (there are a lot) trying to get up to speed.

Thanks for any help.

I thought this would have been a relevant thread for the information to be accessed in.

The more relevant information in the one thread the better I thought.

Thanks anyway.

I will have a go at answering your questions briefly.

1. In "Getting Started" it mentions Antenna Supply 5v On or Off.

I have a masterhead amp on the antenna. Do I still leave this at off ?

Yes...off

2. How do I select my favorite TV channels when doing a Timer Setting ?

When I go to select a channel it brings up the huge list rather than my shortened favorites list.

No way to reduce that list at the moment, except by removing them entirely...press the OK Key in normal function and delete

3. The RF in & out in the middle of the back is used for what ?

Does this allow you to still use the Toppy with TV's with RF in only, or is it just for switching to analogue TV through the STB.

For RF in on TV's with no other connection...and a passthrough for RF signal.

4. Is the a TAP that jumps straight to the second EPG format ?

No, uless someone does a Tap...if it's possible...I think it is the better EPG also

4. Is the a TAP that jumps straight to the second EPG format ?

Try this TAP and see if it does what you want.

http://members.ozemail.com.au/~glynch/TAP/...eDefaultEPG.zip

I also made this TAP which gives access to the timer setting page by pressing the sleep key. The sleep function is still available by pressing the sleep key again from the timer setting page. It should find the timer page even if you have been using other menus previously.

These are my first attempts at TAP and C programming so no guarantees that they won't have any problems but they appear to work ok.

blip,

I was going to ask what was the fastest way to get to the recording table and you've just fixed it as well as fixing my EPG question.

Thanks for the great TAP's.

I've searched but can't find an answer;

Can I watch one tuner via component and output the other tuner via composite (or any other combination)?

Phill.

There is a very short answer.....NO....there is only one processor for outputing video signal (or whatever you might call it)....so you can't do what you ask....sorry....but it will output that single signal to RF, composite, scart and s-video at the same time.

NEW TIMESHIFT TAP!!!!!!!

This tap was originally perceived by Koops, who, after my and other folks regular wingeing about the lack of a 10 second back function in recorded and recording mode, made a beta tap to solve this...he proceeded and Andycullen decided to assist by doing his own beta's because it was something he wanted desperately....anyway, the upshot of it all is that Andy has got a Tap done and it is in my opinion, "FANTASTIC"...

This tap http://members.westnet.com.au/web/acullen/topfield.htm for me is the most useful Tap of all...It is a multi function and optioned back and forward tap for recorded and recording files...

Please...don't get me wrong here ...all other taps I have used have been great, and I appreciate all efforts people make with taps....but this tap gets FIRST PRIZE from me as the most useful Tap of the lot in my opinion.

EDIT...this is a side benefit of installing the tap, and a very important one too

hi....

I am not sure if this feature is unique to Andy's tap or not, but I have tested this on a Toppy without the progress bar tap and a Toppy with the progress bar tap....and this is something that happens that Andy has not reported

There is also another very interesting happening that I have found and would be interested to get someone else's opinion...and that is that the tap gives an extremely fast forward and rewind function by pressing the play bar first and then pressing the |< or >| key....it advances at the rate of 1 hour in 10 seconds!!!!!!! so far I have tested this to work in recorded or recording files when using Andy's tap

Please Excuse a total NOOB

I am totally taken in with the possibilities of the TF5000PVRt

MY one concern is .. I will replace my existing VCR with the Toppy

Will I be able to view and record analogue broadcasts as well as SD?

We apparently only get a few hours of digital per day but the one who

wears pink like to see all her show regardless of how they are broadcast.

Don't be confused with the difference between SD and HD TV.(sorry...need to mention this just in case)

SD TV is readily available in most areas...It is HD TV that is broadcast in minimal amounts in some areas at the moment...

I don't know about availability SD TV for Lake Macquarie, but if you have SD TV broadcast, then it is most probably available 24/7 so you would not need to be able to record analogue, unless some broadcasters are not broadcasting in your area....

I did have a look at what reception you get, but not knowing exactly where you are made it a bit difficult to work out...maybe some members from that area might like to comment.

You cannot record analogue to the Topfield.

I would not throw out your VCR, just in case you need to record analogue now and then, but until you experience the abilities of a PVR and especially the TF5000PVRt, it's difficult to fathom what we are going on about.

Yeah CM..You go from being told off for getting the Toppy in the first place, to being told off for not FF through the ads...Don't forget to look at installing some of the Taps...especially for me the Progressbars key tap, which makes file manipulation and skipping of unwanted segments easier....also Tony has some great taps available on his page, especially for me the Infodisplay7 and progress bar..but there are many taps there that will suite all kinds of tastes.....Blip has made a couple of convenient taps too...I run about 6 taps and these just enhance the Topfield experience.

My wife can't be bothered watching TV these days if it is not from the Toppy, and it is so easy to do recordings....It's so easy to log up some brownie points with very little effort, when you own a Toppie...

Just do it and sort out the flack later...you can't lose if you get past the 1st week...lol

Any problems, just ask and we will help.

Latest ProgressbarKeys Tap version 3.5 from Andycullen.Andy also acknowledges that the idea for this tap is based on Koops ExtraJump.tap

Get this one!!!

I has more displays and more options and does all as listed below.

Brilliant!!!

foss

THIS IS FROM ANDYS WEB PAGE

IM SURE HE WON'T MIND ME PLACING THIS HERE TO TELL MEMBERS ABOUT THIS TAP

Here is a link to his page...follow the progressbarkeys link

http://members.westnet.com.au/acullen/topfield.htm

ProgressBarKeys v3.5

New features

Version 3.5 22:00 13 July 2004 WST

Changed method used to close progress bar to use RKEY_Play instead of RKEY_Exit as the RKEY_Exit method can cause other tap menus to display.

Version 3.4 19:30 13 July 2004 WST

Factory settings for |< and >| set to 15 seconds forward and back respectively.

Version 3.3 23:25 12 July 2004 WST

v3.3 Progress bar is closed 4 seconds after the last key was pressed unless the last key pressed was the play key.

ProgressBarKeys.ini is now in a more readable format.

Extra Information Box optionally available when Topfield information box or progress bar is displayed.

Macro Keys Default Settings

Recorded Program Keys

Red Key 03:00 Forward

Blue Key 0:10 Backward

>| Key 0:15 Forward

|< Key 0:15 Backward

Time shifted Program Keys

Red Key 03:00 Forward

Blue Key 0:10 Backward

>| Key 0:20 Forward

|< Key 0:20 Backward

Playback During Recording Keys

Red Key 03:00 Forward

Blue Key 0:10 Backward

>| Key 0:20 Forward

|< Key 0:20 Backward

Faster Forward and Rewind

The |< and >| key macros generate 2 times the << key and 3 times >> key per key press respectively. As a result using the |< and >| keys to move through the progress bar is two times faster in rewind and 3 faster moving forward than using the << or >> keys.

Extra Information Box

Box 1

Current date and time in the format dd/mm/yyyy hh:mm:ss.

Box 2

Reports the free space in MB on your HDD followed by and estimate of the recording time available based on the parameter MbPerMin (default is 56). I calculated the average MB per minute by recording several shows and then looking at the size and number of minutes reported in the file menu. The actual MB per minute varies depending on the channel and the program. If you don't like the number I have calculated then edit the ProgressBarKeys.ini file and put in your own estimate. If the calculated recording time available is less than the parameter HddFreeHours (default=4) the box will display with a red background.

Box 3

The third box reports the estimated date and time your disk will be full based on your current timer setting and available recording time calculated in box 2. If the hours to the ETF calculated is less than the parameter HddTimerHours (default=48) the box will display with a red background.

Estimated Time Full (ETF) Calculation Example

Current date and time 11/07/2004 14:00

Timer 1 records daily at 18:00 for 60 minutes.

The ETF will be 13/07/2004 18:00 as the calculated available disk space on that day would not be sufficient for the timer duration. There was sufficient disk space for the timer on the 11/07/2004 and 12/07/2004.

ProgressBarKeys Menu

The ProgressBarKeys menu is displayed when you start the tap manually. Once the tap is running the menu can be displayed by pressing the exit key.

ProgressBarKeys Stop

Selecting this menu option terminates the tap.

ProgressBarKeys Suspend/Resume

This menu option stops the tap from intercepting key commands giving you normal key functionality.

Red Key Auto On/Off

The Red key functionality requires the progress bar to be displayed. If you want the Red key to work without first displaying the progress bar select "Red Key Auto ON" in the tap menu. Note: The Pip function will not be available whilst the tap is enabled and "Red Key Auto ON".

Fwd/Rew Key Auto On/Off

When the Fwd/Rew Key Auto function is on the 2x, 4x, 6x fast forward and 1x, 2x, 3x rewind functions are replaced with the progress bar fast forward and rewind functions. When you press the fast forward key for the first time the tap will show the progress bar.

Progress Bar Extra Info On/Off

When this menu option is set to ON the extra information box will be displayed whenever the Topfield progress bar is displayed.

Information Box Extra Info On/Off

When this menu option is set to ON the extra information box will be displayed whenever the Topfield information box is displayed.

Information Box Extra Info Top/Bottom

When this menu option is set to Top the extra information box will be displayed on top of the Topfield progress bar. When set to Bottom the extra information box will be displayed at the bottom of the Topfield progress bar.

Reset Key Setup

This menu option will restore all the ProgressBarKeys settings back to the original settings.

Close Menu/Next Tap

This menu option closes the menu and generates the exit key for the next tap to respond to.

ProgressBarKeys.ini

You can edit the ProgressBarKeys.ini file on your PC using notepad to change the macro key definitions. I have named the |< as the "StartKey" and the >| key as the "EndKey" in the ini file.

Recorded PlayBack Keys (Mode 1)

Yellow (Bookmark) key jumps forward 30 seconds.

Forward (>>) key moves forward 5 seconds.

Rewind (<<) key moves backward 2.5 seconds.

Timeshift Playback Keys (Mode 2)

Yellow (Bookmark) key jumps forward 30 seconds.

Forward (>>) key moves forward 10 seconds.

Rewind (<<) key moves backward 10 seconds.

Recording Playback Keys (Mode 3)

Yellow (Bookmark) key jumps forward 30 seconds.

Forward (>>) key appears to move a variable number of seconds with each press.

Rewind (<<) key appears to move a variable number of seconds with each press.

ProgressBarKeys FAQ

Q. Why did you choose the Blue key to jump backwards.

A. The Topfield manual states the blue key will jump backwards 10 seconds, however the blue key only worked in Time Shift mode. The first thing this tap was trying to do was to make the blue key work the same in all modes. Once you load this tap you can make the blue key jump forward if you like.

Q. How do I display the ProgressBarKeys Menu.

A. Press the exit button

Q. What firmware has this tap been tested with.

A. Australian April 6 2004 firmware. It will not work with earlier versions as is uses functions added to the API in the April 6 2004 firmware.

firmware.
