TiVo: need a copy of mfslive

Recommended Posts

Hey all, I'm really hoping someone here can help me out.

Visiting the inlaws at the moment and it seems the HDD in their much loved TiVo is dieing. I've got another one here to replace it, but I can't for the life of me find an appropriate version of mfslive to backup and restore with.

Apparently, the right version for Australia was "9.3g".

I've found 9.3f, but I'm still getting boot loop issues and would like to try the right version to rule that out.

If anyone has a copy of 9.3g kicking around and could help out it would be much appreciated!

Head over to the Whirlpool forums and contact a member there called Darren. He should be able to help you out.

Thanks mate, just pinged him so hopefully he can help out!

There's not really a lot of options when you're trying to find a simple TiVo replacement right now!

It may pay you to read the latest posts in the Tivo thread over there too. It appears the Tivo service is dieing a slow death and Tivos may not be around too much longer.

Yep, I've read that too, certainly doesn't sound too promising.

Darren has been a great though and hopefully with his help we can get the box going for a bit longer, until the service is dead.

Fingers crossed by that time theres a reasonable alternative that I can suggest for the in-laws.

Many (including myself) have jumped on the FetchTV bandwagon.

I would concur. Very nice machine. 7 day EPG works very well. Has ad skip and integrates Netflix, Stan, TV online channels etc. properly.

You can buy them stand alone at Harvey Norman etc. for around $400 or get with an Optus plan (I believe several other ISPs are now also offering FetchTV packages)

Yep, fetch mighty is at the top of the list as a replacement, but I was a bit worried by some reports of unreliable recording and random freezes; ease of use and reliability is the big priority. The telly already runs Netflix nicely, and does a reasonable job of media playback from a HDD too.

Have you guys had many issues with yours?

Not since the most recent firmware and companion app updates. It is all running reasonably smoothly. The biggest issue remaining is the loss of the wifi password after power cycling.

None are 100% but the Fetch has performed pretty much without issue for me.
