Hi Folks

As the title describes, I am suddenly (since 29 Dec) unable to receive any of the Canberra TV stations other than SBS (I can access all 5 SBS channels within Channel 30 band including the digital radio channels).

Until the problem became apparent, I was able to receive up to 25 channels including all the freeview stations.

I live in Fraser (Belconnen) on the northern slopes of Mt Rogers. There have been no changes to my current antenna arrangement (I have a substantial VHF and UHF antenna array). There is a mains powered signal booster in the system and it seems to be working - I unplugged the power supply and immediately lost the SBS signal; restored when I restored the power.

Can anyone offer any inspiration to solve the issue?

Thanks in advance!

Wow - that's a serious problem. Is it a STB that can't pick the stations up or a SD/HD TV, or both? If it's one or the other - STB or TV - I'd recommend an isolation test; can you take the machinery to a friend's place and try it there and/or borrow a friend's machinery and try it at your place?

EDIT: Having thought about this a bit more, it seems to me that if this was a broadcaster/transmitter problem this corner of the forum would be flooded with posts like yours over the last couple of days. I gotta say I'm thinking it's a problem unique to you sad.gif

Hi freestate

The device is a PVR - actually a Ledteck DTV1000S tv card in a desktop PC.

It is our only TV at present - as mentioned in another forum, our main Samsung LA40A650 tv stopped dead on Boxing Day, so there is nothing to compare it to here at home.

Having a run of bad fortune at the moment - regarding to televsion, that is.

I guess I could lug the pc to the neighbours tomorrow to see if it works there - may be an antenna problem

Happy New Year!!

Bummer - it's a shame it's so complicated. Best of luck with it all.... and Happy New Year to all!

Gooseman,
You have lost the VHF part of the antenna or the VHF input to the masthead amplifier. If you unplug the power you will loose the signal. There is no bypass around the amplifer.
The VHF part is the longer elements which are vertical.

There is a Canberra antenna person which posts in Canberra forum.

Thanks for the response.

The weirdest thing is that all the channels became available again for a while this morning. You have got to love intermittent faults.

I am inclined to agree with your notion that it is the VHF antenna connection. Now to pluck up courage to get onto the roof and check them out - bit high for my normal comfort zone - maybe I just get a technician.

Have a good new year
