I have bought cheaply (maybe not so smart) a newish looking COSHIP satellite type of STB and have been trying to set it up as a digital set top box. I don't have a manual and COSHIP have not replied to my query. There is no model number on the outside or inside that I can see.
My main query is whether or nor it will work as a normal SD STB.

It has the usual remote like STBs but I can't work my way through the menus (insufficient knowledge) to set it up. It mentions FTA but this is I think satellite FTA. Also I cant get it to find any input signal that it recognises when I attach a normal UHF antenna.
On the back it has:
TV scart out
LNB in (for a disk I presume)
LOOP out
Audio L, R and Video
S-VHS
TV antenna in (normal RCA type) and TV out (normal RCA)
It has a rear logo IRDETO and two card slots in the front.

In the menus it has 22 (or 26) preprogrammed satellite names.
and a lot of talk and options about LNB (whatever that is).

It has a RF section and NTSC and various PAL (B, I etc) options.

Can anyone please help? (It is similar to a Coship CDVB200E - from the website)
Another possibility of course is that's it's faulty ot maybe won't work without a card.
I think it was used originally on Austar.

Thanks guys

Thanks guys - ok it's a satellite-only box all right.
It's my fault for buying it and I can't return it - I mistakenly thought FTA meant it would do sat. plus terrestrial FTA. I did not know anything about sat. FTA.

I do have an old dish and LNB from a TPG subscriber service I once had - I wonder if I would get anything if I fed the dish signal into it. The dish is about 80cm - an oval type.

Suppose that's not big enought to pick up anything useful - or anything at all for that matter.

Any comments would be appreciated.

Jaques.

theres a couple of satelites out there that you could probably pick up a few fta channels but not sure how many are english or worth watching. you could always get a years subcription to freextv and watch some great xxx but other than that there not much up there thats free, try looking at this forum www.satz43.net.
good luck
cheers

Hi,

realign your dish to b3, there's a lot of action going on there to see, even though a lot are not english language, there are heaps of FTA you can tune in, have a look at
http://www.lyngsat.com/optusb3.html

for the correct numbers to whack into the setup screens

And UBI is grabing most of what's up there at the moment, so the next few months could be interesting. dry.gif
