Full Version: What Does It Cost For An Extra Outlet?

I am paying $19.95 for an extra decoder outlet. I have a Mystar on the other outlet (that costs an extra $14.95 a month in itself).

I am looking at this:

http://join.austar.com.au/join/Pages/Creat...geWithDeal.aspx

It says that an extra decoder is $12.95 a month.

I just called Austar but its billing dept. isn't open on weekends...

Just wondering what you guys are paying if you have an extra outlet at home.

Anyway, while I was there I decided to see what two Mystars would cost.

$12.95 for the additional outlet.
$29.95 for two Mystar service fees.

So, for an extra Mystar it would cost me around $28 extra, all up.

Oh, I was late paying last month's bill (it's Bpay and I forgot to update the payment to cover the extra decoder last month) so I was slugged a $16.95 late payment fee because of the overdue extra amount. Which I had to pay before I could REMOVE a service online (Fox Sports).

This is starting to get expensive. God knows how much we'll be up for if we want to get the Mystar in one room and the MystarHD in another (we have an SD plasma and a HD LCD). And most of the time I spend flicking through the channels with the remote and often settling on watching a repeat of Home Improvement or Law and Order... (the missus laps up the Lifestyle shows like you wouldn't believe - and as they say, Happy Wife, Happy Life).

yea i know your pain, we have two mystars and a standard box with the lot except ethnic and pot plant porn and its around $190 a month. I cant get why they charge for an extra outlet when its my wiring that I installed, so how do they charge me for having it

A few years back I asked why i kept getting stung $20 a month for an extra outlet when their ads kept saying $15, they fixed it but a year later it went back to $20, just like every year telstra stop giving me my discounted line rental for being a disabled veteran. calling both is so stressfull these days i just dont bother and just pay it, i have better things to do than wait on hold for half an hour to talk to a drone who doesnt know how to fix it then promises its fixed only to find out next bill it hasnt been fixed

I sent an email to ask@austar.com.au with my customer details and queried why this was so.

Today I got a reply from "Victoria" telling me that I should have gotten the "Multiroom" package which costs $12.95 a month. It's available depending on what program package that you have and we qualify.

So, I've been credited back the extra dough that I was charged.

Not too shabby customer service, eh?

Hi,

Anyone know/done this?

I just saw a tv ad for Austar, they said are giving a free 2nd box for new installations,

If I cancel my sub, and then ring asking for a new sub, do I then become a new customer, and qualify for the second box deal?
vallatv
i bet it's only free for like 3 months and you have to agree to a 12mth contract, check the fineprint my friend.
vallatv
if you get 2 boxes can you get say basic+sports on one box and Basic+Fun+living on the other, or do both boxes have to have the same?
aeon
When I had 2 boxes, both had the same packages of channels - I assume you want to limit viewing on the second box for some reason? (if it's to save money, I don't think they do that - as you're paying for Basic+Fun+living package already, the box cost is completely separate).
vallatv
well i mainly watch sports and the wife and kids watch lifestyle and kids channels.

They will be the same as it goes by your account, not by the box. Though with Box Office and Pay Per Views i believe you have to designate which box you will be viewing it on, so if you want to see it on both, you'll have to buy it twice.

Yep, the same.

When I got a standard STB for the family room (the Mystar is in the lounge) I asked this very question. Nope, what's on the Mystar will be on the STB, I was told. And so it came to pass...

Mate i think you need to give austar a call as it looks like your being ripped off it a big way....i may be wrong but it just doesn't seem right to me, i have 4 Std boxes now with everything but the sports and....as you put it the ethnic channels and pot plant porn.... and i only pay $136.15 every month and that comes with a Mag and the statement fee, if i added 2 Mystar boxes to what i have now i am still only paying $183 a Mth. When i did have MyStar the only thing that changed was that i gave up 1 Std box and put a Mystar box in it's place and i was charged $14.95 a mth extra and i still got the multiroom discount ($19.09). that was the same even when i went and got 3 mystar Boxes...just the Extra $14.95 per box and then they gave me the Multiroom credit. Have a good look over your bill and a good look at the website and keep calling Austar until you find someone that will explain it to you nad get the mess sorted out, they had me paying to much for a while.

wow mr fixit, judging by your signature you either have all the appliances listed or thats a wish list. I'm guessing thats what you have. I'm impressed. Wish I was that wealthy. Although I do enjoy spending money on recreational activities with my family. But wouldn't mind a setup like your house one day, maybe when I win lotto biggrin.gif

Thank you....Yeah it is what i have but seeing how i have a terminal disability and also can't get out like i want to, i have tried to give my family the best they can have while i am still here and i will leave them with plenty so that they can have all the recreational activities later, however every now and then i do hire a mate of mine to take us all out on my boat for a while, it has a bedroom with Aircon so i can relax for a while when i need to and then join my family (and good mate) for a spot of fishing off the deck. But i have to say the Arron Speakers are something......and the Yamaha Amp is a new addition/upgrade and it is the best money spent....what it can do and the power, features , etc is unbelievable.
Good luck with the lotto mate and i hope you get the system of your dreams one day soon.
