We have just moved to Macarthur and cannot get any digital or even analogue reception. The house has an external aerial which appears to a UHF/VHF type and it is pointing towards Tuggeranong Hill (clear line of sight). We have four TV points in the house which lead to a splitter and then up to the roof. I have checked the aerial and all cables and everything appears to be normal and connected. I replaced the splitter as it was corroded, but no difference. We have tried our Samsung plasma, Celestial LCD and Panansonic analogue TVs and all we get is some grainy analogue reception on some channels.

Has anyone got advice on what the problem may be before we call in a technician?

KristyC,
The antenna should be a band 5 UHF only antenna.

Looking at your links, our antenna is the same design as the Hills and Digitek ones. Can I assume that it is Band 5 if it is that design? I will need to get back on the roof to check what brand and model it is. Are there any other distinguishing features to check if it is Band 5?

Unless it was a local move, and your TV's were already tuned to the channels used on Tuggeranong Hill, have you tried a manual scan? The digital channels are on RF channels 57 (SBS), 59 (ABC), 62 (SC10), 65 (WIN) and 68 (Prime). The analogue channels are on RF channels 58 (SBS), 60 (ABC), 63 (SC10), 66 (WIN) and 69 (Prime).

EDIT: I just found one of your old posts, where you mentioned that you were in Duffy. You would've been getting your signals from Black Mountain then, so a re-scan is obviously required.

Yes, we were in Duffy in line of sight of Black Mountain and got good reception using rabbit ears (Still haven't sorted the picture quality issues yet - probably need a blu-ray). We've done the auto re-scan several times on three different TVs using rabbit ears and the external aerial with no luck. I'll try the manual scan as suggested, but if the auto scan can't pick-up anything decent I can't see how manual scan would. What's the frequency of GO?

It's part of the WIN multiplex.

Oh, and if you need the actual frequency, it's 788.5 MHz.

Hi,
Macarthur - band 5 UHF antenna - 4 outlets.
My monies on a masthead amp or distribution amp of some description and the previous owner has taken the plug in power supply.
Is there a plastic box on the mast with the coax going in and out of?

Thanks for all the advice. We got the tech in yesterday and he replaced the masthead amp and installed a plug in booster. All good now despite the expense.
