I have been wondering when the NRL would be in HD...however, I can't answer you question. Keen to know the answer though.

At least 9 film the NRL in HD. The same can't be said for 7 with the AFL. There telecasts are nothing short of rubbish. On par with VHS.

You would think 7 would be so embarrassed to see their AFL PQ compared with the brilliance of it on ONEHD that they would be rushing to do the same. But no sign of it happening.

The part that scares me the most is I believe 7 has all the finals this year. I hope I am wrong.

Apparently, the issue is with WIN not having HD encoders to do local ads for each of its' markets (like SC TEN has recently done with ONE HD).
Here in NBN land, NBN have a similar issue, so they air Newcastle news & ads right throughout Northern NSW on Channel 80.
This is 24/7 (as when there is no native HD content, NBN do an upconverted version of its Newcastle feed to all of its markets).

I'm assuming WIN will be doing local ads with the new Channel GO!, which launches this Sunday on Nine/WIN/NBN.

As for the NRL HD PQ, whilst it's better than SD, it's certainly not as a good as the NRL HD on FOX (or even as good as Nine's HD cricket coverage was last summer).
Maybe that's why they haven't bothered to use the '9HD' logo during the NRL telecasts like they did with the cricket.. maybe they are doing a 'HD-lite' eg. only 576p and not 1080i... ?????

Seven and Ten are sharing the finals, Ten has the Grand Final this year.

And 7/Prime did show the Grand Final in HD last year, presumably their one and only HD AFL transmission.

Thank goodness for that! The big question is whether the games done by 7 will end up being filmed HD or not.
