We've got an LG 'Super Slim' 32FSANB and sitting on top of it a DGTEC DGT100 SD box, which we, in our total ignorance, believe to be a 'set top box', right?
And it says 'digital receiver' on it so I guess all it does it receive digital TV and I suppose it must be needed because TV is analog, right?
The DGT100 doesn't even get a mention on DGTEC's website. We only bought this stuff two years ago. Is it all tremendously out of date now?
I've been reading about TIVO on the web. Do we need this TIVO stuff or are we pretty right for the upcoming digital tv changes with what we've got?
Is what we've got considered reasonable stuff or outmoded junk?

ab,
I hope this helps:
I cannot find much info about the LG 32FSANB, but if it includes an inbuilt digital tuner (or receiver) then the DGTEC box is not required, if it does not have a digital tuner, you will need an external one (like the DGTEC).
The DGTEC DGT100SD is now obsolete but is a Standard Definition only Digital TV receiver, this will get you all of the Standard Definition channels. To answer if this equipment is outmoded, you have to ask yourself, does it still work, and does it still suit you, if yes is the answer, then no it is not outmoded. Bear in mind though that there will be in the future, TV channels only available with a High Definition tuner, like the new ONE HD channel. If you would like to get these HD channels, you will need a HD Digital Receiver. You can buy these fairly cheap now from most retailers or you can get one integrated into a new TV if you are planning on upgrading your TV.
Tivo is a recorder and in some ways, a computer. By purchasing one, you will be able to record tv by using the guide built in and also, if connected to the internet, have the future option of additional programs that the Tivo box can download. So you don't really NEED Tivo but if your favourite programs are on while you out, then it may be something to look at, or a PVR which is similar but cannot connect to the internet and is limited in some of the smart functions.
Cheers

Hi and thanks.
That pretty well puts us in the picture. Seems our stuff is just about history as the market goes but, as you say, if it is doing the job for us then it is not 'outmoded'.
And it is doing the job for us.
But I guess we'll want HD sometime down the line and we'll go out and get an HD set top box. Can still keep our tv, it seems, from what you say, and the set top box shouldn't be too expensive if there's as many around as you say - so it all looks good !
thanks for your help,
