Full Version: Importing Quantity Of Same Dvd

Hi guys,

I am considering a bulk purchase (over 25) of the same dvd. It would be an internet purchase from America.

The idea would be to offer the new dvds to whatever DTV member want it for a very low price, and offload the rest on eBay.

i have checked on the customs website, and can't see anything wrong with it (legally), as long as:

- the Dvd's dont contain offensive content
- they are not pirated
- total value not over $1000 (subject to taxes)

SO, is there any reason not to?

Thanks
tonyjg
Try to do some searches on bringing in stuff to Australia :

- COMMERICAL QUANTITIES / IMPORT DUTY - TAX / GST etc.

As you are planning on selling them - for profit or not - you could be deemed by Customs or the Tax Office to be a seller, therefore requiring you to pay taxes on such items.

If it was 'so easy' for everyone to bring in items via a bulk purchase and not pay any taxes or charges - you would think that everyone would be doing it !

Note - it all depends upon whether Customs inspects your item/s. Not putting you off from you exercise - just providing you will some other things to consider / what to tell Customs if they detect it (just in case !!)

EDIT - thats not to say it hasnt been done on here before - see HDDVD TAKING LIVES !

Im a customs broker and it doesnt matter if they are a commercial quantity or not as long as they dont go over the aud$1000 youre ok, just make sure you dont use ups or fedex as they are likely to tack on fees, usps are fine as they hit aussie post here, they see the value and it gets delivered

My personal advice here is that the DVD forums here don't generate that much interest anymore so unless it is some unbelievable title/offer you may be better to head straight to ebay or save your dollars.

One final thing I suggest you have a good read of the forum rules in relation to selling of goods and specifically in relation to ebay sellers....

please note I'm not trying to knock your intent here just point you in the right direction....

Thanks for the advice Yorac.

As you may have seen, i have offered the HD-DVD 'The Departed' to members at cost price as a sign of good will / thanks to DTV (and the response has been more than i expected! i was hoping to make a little profit, lol).

The remainder of which i will be selling on eBay. I am not quite sure what you are eluding to regarding the selling of goods / ebay? in this thread i was merely trying to get information on the legalities of undertaking such a venture.

many thanks. i did end up calling customs the other day to confirm before making my purchase. i was told exactly the same thing, which is good smile.gif

delivery is by USPS.

Cheers Dwain the mods are more concerned with members trying to offer commercial type enterprising than someone making a few bucks on the side, there is no issue here with advertising your discs first and then telling all you're off to ebay, that is done quite often as long as there is an observance of time between offer and ebay listing
Dwain
ok, no probs. i was planning to start listing the DVDs on eBay as soon as i get them (as it will take a few months to offload them all i think), but wanted to give them profit free to members here. i guess that should be evidence enough that im not trying to make a commercial business out of selling here at DTV smile.gif

thanks for the clarification.
Mr D
What titles are you going to bring in for us???
Mr D
Just 1 title?
Dwain
yep, thats all i ever spoke about...
