I am on the search for a good quality CD/DVD player with speakers built that also has an ipod dock/auxiliary in for mp3 or portable players.

Personally, I am prejudist on products which are priced over $1k & made in China - so excuse me for this defect.

I initally shortlisted the following (RRP):

1. Geneva Lab Sound System L ($1,999);
2. Tivoli Music System ($1,499-1,699);
3. Yamaha TSX - 130 ($750);
4. Beosound 1 ($2,990).

1.Geneva Lab Sound System L sounds awesome and seems to be a good setup with 4 speakers, ipod dock AND Aux In plus slot loading CD player. I am yet to find out where it is made for now but again, you can see it is premium priced.

2. I ruled out Tivoli despite the real wood enclosure, 2 speakers and downward firing subwoofer, at $1,499-1,699 it's enxucable to be made in china in my book! on the plus side has aux in, mic in and also line out. ideal for recording out of radio/CDs into minidisc etc. no DAB is disappointing.

3. Yamaha TSX-130 - sounds good for the price, very functional design, ipod/iphone dock AND includes DAB (digital radio). The downside, it's only additonal input is USB not 3.5mm, which means not ideal for other mp3/portable players that do not have a USB connector. made in china but at RRP $750 i am not fussed.

4. Beosound 1 - poor mans entry into the world of B&O. well built, good design - innovative CD input. has 2 tweeters, 2 mid range and 1 bass driver. pretty good quality sound. novelty factor includes auto up/down antenna. changeable faceplace, which also doubles as additonal antenna. has din to 3.5mm input for auxiliary. made in czech or denmark.

I am leaning towards the Geneval Lab L and B&O but am also keen to find out if users out there have found other brands that provide as much in terms of quality and function.

I have found onkyo and denon with their solutions but seem to be hard to get hold off around here...

Honey, I think a "prejudist" is some sort of early follower of one of the disciples.....I guess you meant "prejudiced".

FWIW I'd go the Yamaha as best value for money. Most MP3 players have USB connections. But first I'd check the Yamaha can play files from a USB drive (ie normal thumb drive, not a MP3 player).

the missus has a minidisc player which i need to figure whether it will work with the usb connection and your thumbdrive issue is also a very good point.
the yamaha sound output is definitely "capable" for the size and price.
