Hi I have had a Harmony 659 and have been generally pleased with it upto now.
Unfortunately it has lost functionality in some of the buttons so am looking for a replacement.

Should I go with a 525,785 or Harmony One ?

I have the following to control :-

Denon Amp,
Metz TV
Foxtel IQ 1
Strong STB
DVD,VCR
CD

regards

Marty

I'm happy with the two 525's I've got although the numeric keys at the bottom are a bit awkward for single handed use.

Depends on how much you want to spend. I have a 520 and 525 because I could not justify spending 2/3 times or even higher for the other models. I was happy with mono, no favourites button and using batteries (maybe 12 to 16 a year). The 520/525 "feel" could be better but have got used to it.

As you already know, the power of the Harmony is its ability to control multiple devices and switch everything on to exactly what you want it to be. The 525 will do all of this. Other than more activities, the premium you pay for higher models does not significantly add to this controlling capability. But then, lots of people here are prepared to pay for the higher models.

My suggestion is to do a compare of the website, then go into a store and try all three. Ideally, you should try it with them powered, but there are not many places which allow you to do this. The 525 will feel the flimsiest and the One will feel the best. Then it becomes what you are prepared to pay versus what you desire.

the 659 was a great unit and very comfortable in the hand. I had two 525's after my 659 and they never felt right nor did i like the screen, just upgraded to the 785 and am very impressed great value if you can still get one <$150

I bought one from Fluidtek to replae an aging 880.

The 880 feels better in the hand, and the buttons are better placed - though on the 880 the buttons are all the 'clicky' type, where-as on the 785 only some of them are.

I'm disappointed a little in the quality of the directional buttons on the 785, too clicky/small.

That said I've only just set it up and haven't really given it much of a go yet. It's nice and slim (but longer and not as attractive as the 880) but it doesn't hav ethe slippery plastic that the 880 does, so hopefully will mean less dropping (which probably helped to shorten the lifespan of the 880 - have had for 4 years + ).
Oosh
djbigk: How's it stacked up after 3 weeks of use?
