So whats the best BLU RAY player in a laptop that can connect to a Plasma via HDMI?

Model of laptop?
How much?
Any cheap models that do the same thing?

So far I have been told:

sony vaio FW37

Studio xps 16

HP HDX16

Take a look here...

The Metabox lappys are quite nice, a mate got an Asus that's also really nice. It's all about personal choice though really. I'll be in the market for one myself soon and the above site I've found to be quite helpfull. It doesn't list the dells obviously, and I really like the XPS series so I still havent made a choice either.

Yes I want to get in on a new laptop also. I have never owned one before and am a bit overwhelmed by the amount of different models and specs etc available. I had my mind set on a 17" as this will eventually become my desktop replacement, but to be honest when I was looking at them the other day in HN a 17" almost seems to be too big to be lugging around.

Have always liked the look of the XPS but the price of those escalates very quickly once you start making changes. Asus I think would be my next best choice. What I want is a good solid performer that is capable of running auto-cad programs and the like, but which model and configuration is where I get lost?

PS In sticking with the Blu Ray side of things I also want a laptop which is able to play BR also.

Ive learnt...2 laptops mate

One that replaces the Home PC in either 15 or 17'. Still mobile if it has to be, but big enough its a useable PC

Then a second travel one, no bigger than 13' screen and no smaller than 11'. Great for travel but still big enough it can have al the right gear onboard.

I agree with you there that would be the ideal setup, but for this lowly mature age student trying to exist on Austudy and still support a young family at the same time I'm afraid at the moment I can only go with one laptop. Truth is I should not even be looking at one at all, but I fear my 6yr old desktop pc is dying a slow death. laugh.gif

Not the size most would be looking for, but I recently got a Sony VGN-TT17GNX. This little 11.1inch unit is an ideal notebook for people who travel heaps as I can actually use this one in a plane! It's extraordinarily well equipped for such a small PC, including a BD recorder not just a player. A bonus is a true 16:9 screen as it is 1366x768. Not Full HD of course but it does output 1080P thru its HDMI. There's not much missing. One extra bonus is as it is a ULV notebook I can get between 6-7 hours use on a single charge too. I love it.
