do you still have your comment to post here ???? (or do they become the 'copyright' of News Ltd ??)

as for some parts of this story as misinformed :

CHAOS.com (who actually uses them ??) DOES have THE DARK KNIGHT DVD for $19.95 http://chaos.com/product/dark_knight_2402820_925136.html (dearer than what you can get it at BigW mind you) and the Blu-ray for $43.95 - so there is no misinformation here.

And then there's always the usual SONY representative adding in their 2.5 cents worth :
QUOTE
"Blu-ray offers consumers the ability to enjoy the full capability of their HDTV," says Hassan Mahdi, product manager for home video at Sony Australia. It is a waste to invest in an HDTV and then watch your movies on DVD in standard definition when you could be enjoying all the additional detail of HDTV."

hey - SONY you are still making and selling SD DVD players and non-FullHD TVs - I think the word WASTE is a tad STRONG to be telling consumers.

Further:
QUOTE
"Already in real dollar terms, Blu-ray players are more affordable now than DVD was at the same stage of its adoption. Prices of Blu-ray players have now dropped below the critical price point making it a more accessible proposition to consumers."

The repeat comment button is on high rotation for this statement.

I would also say that Laptops are more affordable, and MP3 players, Mobile Phones / PDAs and a stack of other products. They may be 'affordable' - but its also a question of whether customers want them - and see value, convienence, or just generally a NEED for them. (BUT there are a stack of electronics that have come and gone. Even the humble CD is becoming a 'victim' of change)

(**** We have laptops because we can connect to the internet, work from home or the local coffee shop; we have MP3 players to listen to any song in a massive collection; we have mobile phones / PDAs to take pictures, send text messages and rake up massive bills for the telecom companies. A Blu-ray player is just a movie player. Its primary function is somewhat limited - unless u want to join in a Disney BDLive chat session)

Walk into a store like JB and there's so many PRODUCTS competing for you $$$s ! Each has to compete against each other for not only floor space, but margins and customer desires and loyalty. Would you like a Wii, and Xbox or PS3 game ? a CD, an LP, a printer, some blank discs, a camera, a Mac product, a Telstra product etc etc etc. DVD has had a good decade in gaining customer's wants and needs - customers know their prices and what they are wanting to pay.

Whilst player prices seem to be coming down (although the new Panasonic machines seem to be going up in price) - its the DISCS and HIGH PRICES / PRICE DIFFERENCE that the film studios + companies themselves have to address. $15 for the DVD of the Dark Knight VS $40 for the Blu-ray is still a difference that consumers aren't being won on.

(my hip pocket is closed in any case - with the Rudd Recession and NSW State of Unemployment)

What I posted:

"Once again though the context of the article has credence your pricing info is way wrong, as an early adopter I can tell you you can pick up players much cheaper than your are quoting.

As for The Dark Knight it can be picked up for just over $30 and in a twin pack with Batman Begins for around $50 on BR.

Does anyone do any research nowadays?

No doubt the credit crunch will not help adoption of the new format but it may be that it forces player and disc prices lower sooner rather than later as the main players here really cannot afford the format to fail!

"Journalists" who write articles like these are nothing but clown shoes. (quote: Jay & Silent Bob!)

Of course if you quote overpriced retailers like Chaos, Sanity or EzyDVD, you can make anything sound way too expensive... How about the other side of the coin?? The smart shopper waits for the sales and knows when the bargains are out there. eg: AUSTRALIA & QUANTUM OF SOLACE at Big W were (and still are!) only $31, whereas next door at Sanity (with no-one shopping inside, BTW...) are selling the same movie for $45!

I'll go out on a limb here and say that nearly all serious HD customers know where the bargains are, and know when they're getting ripped off.

I reckon this guy bought his Sony BDPS350 for the full RRP of $449, and then found out that basically EVERYWHERE ELSE sells them well below $400...

What a douche... huh.gif

He's obviously a turkey as he has only allowed very selected posts below the article.

Looks like he couldn't take the criticism everyone tossed at him - even Dick Smith sells the Sony BDPS350 for under $400 and some Blu-rays discs in the $25-35 range.
