HI All,

I am after a new HD STB. I noticed in current Goodguys catelogue they advertised the TOpfield TF7000HD HD STB for 169. It was around $500 nearly 1 year ago. Any suggestion of purchasing this TOpfield. I also noticed Goodgus selling BUsh DFTA13HD STB for 79. I am mainly looking to purchase one for my parent's room 21inch SOny CRT and my budget is 200.

I read lot of good reviews of TOpfield, however few negative reviews of topfield especially freezing.

Currently i use LG LST6100 STB for my 42inch panasonic Plasma for nearly 2 1/2years no freezing or problem and PQ is awesome. However i could not see LG STB anywhere, seems like discontinued.

Wanted to know how is TOpfield 7000 PQ compare with LG

Thanks

diesel
Raja, Topfield had the 7000STB (HD set top box) and the 7000pvrt (HD PVR). The PVR can be had for ~$500, and the STB ~$150.

The STB has been replaced by the 7010, and by all accounts is a pretty good STB. The LG were reknown for very good PG, but I don't think LG sell STBs anymore. The 7010 would be a good alternative

I have a Topfield 7010 on my bedroom tv, and while the picture quality is very good it regularly locks up or freezes. As it doesn't get a lot of use I am able to live with it, but would never consider the Topfield on my regular tv.

Thanks Peter

What do you think about BUSH DFTA13HD its HD STB normally 150, but in good guys tomorrow only sale catelogue advertise for 79. I don't want a fancy one, it only for the bedroom 21inch CRT to capture the new free to air HD channels, however i want something decent PQ(When i connect my LG6100 with the Sonly 21inch CRT the PQ is pretty good and it works only in 576i.)..

Does the 7000 or 7010 got the res 576i..I read some other place Topfield doesn't display 576i and it has 576p, 769p and 1080i...

Thanks

All HD STBs can output a 576i type signal. On a 21 inch screen its unlikely you'd be able to differentiate between SD and HD channels once you sit back.

STBs these days are pretty proven. You'll still get the odd one that plays up (esp if you live in a poor reception area) but buy and enlarge the Toppy is a good box. But at $80 the Bush seems like good value. As I said, PQ isn't an issue as the HD on one STB will be way beyond your sets ability to display it 'properly' - so any STB will look just as good.

Try connect via svideo or component cables if you can.
