Full Version: Looking For A Replacement To A Yamaha Dvd-s1500
DTV Forum Australia - Australia's Leading Digital TV and AV Forum > Disc Formats > DVD
Mr.Bitey
Guys,

Im looking for a replacement player for a family member. There Yamaha S1500 just shat itself and aparently cannot be repaired blink.gif , seems the S1700 also suffers the same problem but parts seem to be available.

Im thinking something like the Pioneer DV-610AV-K

Needs to be able to:
  • Play SACD & DVD-Audio via analogue outs
  • Play Burnt CDs and DVDs really well
  • Handle scratches etc well
  • Play DVDs via HDMI and output the audio via optical/coax
  • Upscale DVD via HDMI
I'd appreciate some comments by some owners on how well their players perform, and also what the street price of these is/was smile.gif

Cheers,
Bitey

I can't provide any specific reviews or prices, but Oppo DV-980H or DV-983H would do both. I did find that purchasing direct from the US was cheaper than the local dealer when I was considering one.

DV-980H is about A$330 delivered from Oppo. Looks like the DV-983H is discontinued.

Hi Bitey,

Was interested in this thread as I have a similar need. Do you have a short list yet or have you made a decision?

Hi Bitey
I have a DV-600 and, as far as I know (I dont have any SACD disks) its will do everything you listed BUT I would not recommend one as I think you may be dissappointed with its picture.
The 400 & 600 (& I believe the 610 is the same) have a known problem in that the picture they output is REALLY dark for some reason.
Other than that I am very happy with mine.
Mr.Bitey
No dramas - dark output can be fixed through recalibrating (ive got the kit to do it).. so long as its not a crush problem...

He's going for a replacement player - but the S1700 (one model up) - hopefully it doesnt have the same problems as the original s1500 and s1700's had

Cheers,
Bitey
