Interesting stuff.
I guess were arent typical users (just by being here) but I the issues with connections/wiring is probably quite typical.
Most people dont know how to set it up and with quite a few connection options its likely most people have to do something quite different when they get a new tv or possibly a new device.
Wasnt totally shocked that some people didnt know if they had analog or digital (or thought they knew, but were wrong!)

All,
What it says to me is that all connections between equipment should be HDMI so that there is only power and an HDMI cable. The antenna goes to the PVR if present and then onto the TV if required.
Unfortunately this can only occur when all equipment is digital. Manufacturers could make equipment less confusing and a little cheaper by only using HDMI connections. The antenna connectors should change from PAL to F connectors.

F connectors are a right royal PITA for domestic installations. There are other far more consumer friendly connectors that can be far more easily connected to equipment when reaching in, around and behind cabinets.

A fairly typical example I encountered some time ago:
During a Body Corporate meeting where I (once again) raised TV reception issues one of my neighbours stated that "her digital reception was perfect, with the exception of ABC2 which she couldn't see at all".
A few days later I called in and checked her set-up and, not surprisingly, they were watching analogue. A Topfield SD box was sitting on the floor and 'the man from the shop' (where both the LCD and STB had been bought) had used a SCART to RCA cable to connect the Toppy to AV4. This particular Grundig model had SCART sockets on AV1-3 and RCA on AV4 and, annoyingly, you could only 'toggle' the AV inputs in other words, after switching on the telly you had to press the AV button 4 times!
Recently I asked how the telly was and I wasn't really surprised that they were back to analogue again! Apart from the hassle of having to use two remotes and pressing the AV button 4 times, they preferred the soft noisy pictures over the 'harsh' digital ones!
Cheers
Rusty
