Hi,
You'll need an RS-232 cable.
Give me a call when you have the cable and Ill
run you through the procedure over the phone if you like or email
me and Ill send you back the set procedure to follow

Downloaded the new firmware and flash it.
Running without any problems. New firmware seems better than original.

@Sunny:
Oh man... I ordered the box from Crazystu 12 hours too early! Only saw your post this morning.
I went through the link that had the free cable but had to pay for shipping! All up I would've saved over $10 had I gone through the Ozbargain link.
Would've loved to have the extended warranty.

Just wanted to say my Halio came 2 days after I placed the order. Had issues updating to the latest firmware initially, but only because I used a defective cable (still had several RS-232 cables from the old days).
So far so good! Whilst I was disappointed I missed out on the Oz Bargain deal, I was very happy with the component cable CrazyStu provided as it was pretty good quality (better than the Crest ones I bought from Bing Lee).

Hey Crazystu or anyone else that can help me,
I'm about to purchase this Hailo STB, here's my situation:
-I have a plasma with a HD tuner and a HDD recorder with an analog tuner.
-I want to use the HDD recorder to record digital channels.
-Whilst the HDD is recording one channel, I want the option to watch another channel on the TV.
How should I go about connecting this up? Can someone please guide me if the following would be a viable option:
-Connect antenna to a splitter with two connections.
-Hook the TV up to one of the antenna connections.
-Hook the other connection to the STB.
-From the STB, use AV output to HDD (my HDD doesn't have a component input).
-Then from the HDD, component output to TV.
Thank you all in advance.

There's no need for a splitter.
See picture of the back of the Hailo here :
http://crazystu.com.au/hailo-hd-digital-se...ight-p-434.html-Connect antenna cable from wall to "ANT IN" of the Hailo.
-Get another antenna cable. Connect one end to "LOOP" on the Hailo, and the other end to your TV.
The rest of the steps look ok.
Note that if you go this way, you'll need to leave the STB plugged in and switched on at the wall (standby mode is ok), to be able to watch your TV.

Thanks for your reply moes486, I will give this a go when I get the STB.

Just want to confirm one thing. Using my setup above (i.e. Connect my HDD to the HD STB via composite), would it be possible to record HD channels? I know it won't be HD quality but I want to confirm it can record the content albeit at SD quality.
Thanks.

Having a problem with the set up, I've tried the following:
STB to recorder via composite, recorder to TV via component - sound but no picture
STB to recorder via s-video, recorder to TV via component - again sound but no picture
STB to recorder via composite, recorder to TV via composite - all fine
Does anyone know what may be the problem with the first 2 set ups?
Cheers

Does anyone understand the timer function on the Hailo HDSTB-8000? I've been messing around with it for about a week and have got nowhere. All I want is to have it change to a particular channel at 11 AM, and then to a different channel at 6 PM. I want this to happen every day, forever. Can someone give me idiot-proof step-by-step instructions? [Actually I really want these changes to occur only once per week, but this does not seem to be an option.]

I would say your recorder does not allow passthrough of one type of connection (composite) to another type of output (component). Not unusual I would say.

Maybe not. Depends how long the box has been sitting in the distributors and then in the back of the Retailer. I would check the FW version

I'm looking at getting this STB to run on my LCD Monitor.
It has DVI and VGA on it with audio.
Would this be suitable?

Hi,
After upgrading to the new firmware the remote no longer turns the unit on by pressing a numerical number.
I need seperate on and off codes for pronto etc to work properly.
Does any one have the discrete ir codes for on and off for the Hailo or the older Hailo firmware?
Thanks

Hoping that you have already fixed the issue. If not..
Component cable outputs only video. So if you are connecting component cable, you will still need to output the audio separately using the RED and WHITE cable from your recorder to TV.

Sadly no. The distributor has been "working" on a F/W update to rectify SA issues for months. Still nothing I'm aware of. Check olinstle.com for latest F/W. Whatever you do though, if it aint broke, don't fix it.
