Is the resolution of 1080p only done to the BR disk during mastering? I don't think the original movies were filmed on 1080p high def? So if this is the case, it's not true HD? It's just a newibie question.

Film doesn't have a "resolution", but if it did it would be much greater than 1080p.
therefore, your contention is incorrect, and nobody is being mislead.

Movies are commonly filmed using 35mm film and Digital cameras that exceed 1080p resolution.
