Not good news, but to be honest I use JB now there is one in town. Have ordered alot in the past however. Their diversifcation to other areas may have got on top of them.

Sad news - I thought something was up when their prices were soooo much higher than JB recently and all of a sudden new stock was "delayed" yet was available at other stores... I imagine the distributor wanted their bills to be paid before they gave them new stock?

This may also explain the at cost price + $1 per disk special they had a couple of weeks ago. They might of needed some quick $$$ to pay a large bill, such as Universal, Disney or Fox etc.

I guess I should snatch up all the Disney titles for $29.97 when they come out at that price on 4/1/09, otherwise I may not see prices that low for a while.

Either Way, If the worst comes to the worst, there'll be less competitors in the movie market and hence prices may increase everywhere?

Also, If EzyDVD gets sold to another company that has no interest in selling movies (i.e. they just want the store locations) then there will most likely be a fire sale on all their movies, e.g. a cost + $1 sale that goes until the day it closes.

Massive bargains to come!

I knew I shouldn't have bought all those Godfather box sets at $40

I saw the "closing down" sign on the door of one of their local stores and wondered if it was the entire company or just that store. I can't say I'm all that suprised though - it wasn't like they had stock that wasn't available in other stores and at significantly cheaper prices. In fact I can't remember the last time I actually bought anything from an EzyDVD store - not even the Godfather boxset.

I bought the new Indiana Jones movie from them today for $30 (Christmas Present, never would have spent that much myself), everyone else wanted at least $34 for it.

Having said that, it's the first time I've bought anything from them in years, with the exception of some ridiculously priced HD DVD runout discs (ever since they went from being a really good online store to a "me-too" overpriced bricks and mortar store).

+1

I placed five preorders with them in the last two months and every one had awaiting stock despite other online stores having stock. I sent two e-mails to complain and no replies. I've been using DVDCrave for four weeks and I'm very happy with them

I had an order with them including Dark Knight which arrived a couple of days ago no problems. I hopped on the site quickly and cancelled the remaining titles though as I've seen a few retail web sites shut down quickly by receivers to stop customers cancelling and I'd rather not be in limbo. I've reordered those titles on DeVoteD so hopefully I can still get some of them in time for Christmas.

From someone who lived in Adelaide during the introduction of the DVD, I still have fond memories of the first Ezydvd store in Regent Arcade, not much bigger than a master bedroom. They were pioneers, stocking titles in a format that was as unfamiliar to the public as blu-ray is today. To their credit the company grew, but now seems to have been outpaced by their competitors.

They sent out an e-mail to their mailing list yesterday advising of the 'business as usual' line. My guess is the receivers will dump unprofitable company-owned B&M stores, from the business press it appears the online store was making money in its own right.
