I had brought one of th HD Bauhn 250GB PVR's from Aldi a couple of weeks ago at the special price of $299.00 but because it had so many issues / problems I returned it a couple of days later. but I had rung the 1300 number in the book and they said they were developing new Firmware for it (me being clever thought"yeah right") now I've been sent an email from Bauhn with the updated program for it.

I have put all the Supernet specifications below that I can find without opening the unit to look at the hard drive. someone may be tech savvy enough to tell me if I can use the BAUHN upgrade in my Supernet to rectify many of the same issues.

I thought I would be clever by buying buying one of the regular appearing Supernet HDT1200PVR High Definition 160GB PVR's from eBay and the sellers past feedback of the PVR seemed OK. plus I'd previously owned a single tuner Supernet 8000T and it had a fantastic menu that would do every function required including restarting a playback from where you stopped it and set programs to stat and stop at any time.

I get it delivered and what do you know, it has has the same Firmware and functions as the Bauhn model but it has more issues like a minimum record time of 60 minutes in a manual timer set, only stores about 20 HD programs in it's memory before it displays that it's full, when you play back any recording I can't get one to play past 15 or 16 minutes before it freezes, so you have to delete the program, you can't forward wind a program at 2x, 4x, 8x, 16x speeds like other PVR's but only 2x, 4x, 1/2x, 1/4x or jump in increments of about 6 minutes, the rewind button is only a jump of 6 minutes or so each time you push it, you can't restart play from where you stopped a program to go and do something, If you record two programs using either EPG or the manual timer set up that follow each other such as program 1 to end at 7.30 and program 2 to start at 7.30 you only get the first one set or neither one record.

I've put all the Hard Drive and Firmware details that are available from the Supernet HDT1200PVR below. it comes from the menu because the book has nothing in the specifications section. like the rest of the book it has very little about anything much.
A first time PVR user could probably get very confused unless they are a bit tech savvy.

Can someone post the Specifications from the menu of the Aldi's special $299.00 HD BAUHN 250GB unit ( before updating ) so I can see if the BAUHN upgrade firmware will go into the Supernet unit I have.

The remote is exactly the same, the on screen displays of all the features appear to be the same and all the aggravating issues are very similar.

Has anyone yet installed the BAUHN upgrade into either the BAUHN or into the Supernet and has it taken the issude out of it. can programs be set for any length, do all recordings set record, do all the forward and rewind functions work as they're supposed to, can you set more than 10 programs in the timer, will programs record if the finish time of one and start time of the next is the same and can it be another station.

Supernet HDT1200PVR Information from the on srceen menu.

H/W Ver: T-7710.4MT6.64M.c02.2x1216.0
S/W Ver: V.1.0.0.2
Book Info: V1.0.0.0
Update Date: Aug 26 2008

Can someone reply with a fix for me or reply with the BAUHN specifications please.

And finally I thought we were living in a well advanced technological world. they get menus and functions in even some cheap PVR's so right but others and even in expensive models so very very wrong. surely someone could supply a base firmware program to everyone and the manufacturers can add little extras like editing of recorded shows.

I'd appreciate someone helping me out here and that will in turn help out the other suckers who brought inferior PVR's.

Editing Added
I've finished watching all my programs I had on my old PVR and have now started watching recordings I've made on my Supernet. what a piece of crap this thing is.

The longest playback of any recorded show I have is 18.47 minutes and then the playback freezes, I jumped forward, back, stopped and tryed again but I can only get to 18.47 minutes of playback.
Also the maximum recordings it would store in the list is 14 recorded in HD and then I get the message the drive is full.
I recorded a show in SD and it played back the full 60 minutes I recorded.
Does anyone else have a playback problem the same as I do.

Cheers
Barry

Hi Everyone,

I am a frequent reader of this forum and for the first time am thinking about buying a PVR.

Aldi have a Bauhn 320 gig twin HD tuner on special this Thursday for $299.00.

Considering all of the comments on firmware problems with the 250 Gig model from last year, am I being brave in considering a purchase at this time....????????????

Any comments welcomed.

I know "You get what you pay for" but i dont watch a lot of TV and only want to record a few programs a week so i cant justify spending $700.00 for a "Recognised brand' like Strong or Topfield.

Morgon, head over to the PVR/DVDR sub forum. There is already a thread discussing this HD PVR over there.
