Hey there guys I am not sure if this has been covered but I thought I'd share my experience.
I currently own a SONY CRT 1080i TV that has a GREAT picture. I have beeen able to watch HD-DVD and BLU-RAY using the component out at 1080i.
However I was unable to UPSCALE any DVD's because that can only be done through HDMI, the best HD DVD would offer was 576P on PAL dvd's
Any way I came across this item on ebay and I wish I bought it before the DOLLAR was worth 60cents. dry.gif
Its a US company http://stores.ebay.com.au/SAVE-VINYL-SALES he sells a HDMI to component converter.
I bought it and got it a week later, IT WORKS, I am now able to upscale DVD's to 1080i via the component input of my TV.
I will now be able to run the HD DVD and BLU-RAY thru my AMP (when it arrives) and now DECODE true HD and DTS MA while watching it on my CRT TV
I just save about $2000 on buying a new TV I did not NEED. The unit cost me $225.00
Also the power supply is UNIVERSAL and one of the connectors will fit into the back of my YAMAHA AMP so it will be powered ON when I turn on my AMP. COOL
Anyway, if you were stuck between a rock and a hard place like I was, you can now enjoy as TRUE HD experience.

Mr.Bitey
Hmm wonder how its getting around HDCP smile.gif

Sounds like a good piece of kit for those wanting to hang onto old school tech! (better tech in a lot of cases!)

Cheers,
Bitey

I had been thinking of doing same for over a year now with the HD Fury as I have a 1024X1024 Hitachi plasma without HDMI.

What has stopped me getting it is - how do I know my upscaling DVD player will do a better job at upscaling than my Plasma and even if it does - by how much.
Secondly, once the DVD player upscales to 1024X1920 , the Display will down scale to 1024X1024. Double handling which could negate/deteriorate the upscaled signal.

Having said this I would definitely have gotten one if I had a 1024X1920 panel as I did pay more for a good upscaling DVD player which has never upscaled.

Is this not the same as a HDFury2? Version 2 can do component.

Allowing my dvd's to be upscaled by the HD DVD and the Blu-ray player was only a secondary bonus
The most important thing was that I can input into my YAMAHA RX-V3900 and DECODE TRUEHD and DTS MA .
I am not sure about the HDfury, I came across this product and thought I'd tell you guys about it.
If the HDfury does the same, GREAT buy it,
I know this works and if you want some life out of your TV or Projector you can.

Would agree with you that the audio is clearly a major win and definitely worth the money paid.
Video can be of value; but that depends on upscaling ability of display versus player and having to upscale then display down scaling given display is not 1080i/p native resolution.
If display is 720p resolution and Blu player can upscale to 720p then I suspect the player upscaling could also be a winner.

Good to know there is more than one box that does this. The HD Fury2 was one of the first I believe.

Good viewing and listening as I agree it can extend the life of your display/projector when one also wants HI Def audio.

Cheers,

Bryan

Am I missing something here? How can the OP decode true HD and DTS MA when the video output is RGB/Component and the audio output is stereo?

Player --(HDMI)--> Receiver (decodes audio) -- (HDMI) --> Converter -- (Component) --> TV

Exactly
The hdmi MUST go into the receiver to DECODE the audio
I only need the Video after that
which is converted to component
Easy
