Hi all,

Can't seem to find an appropriate section to ask this -

I'm looking for a nice looking, sleek, minimalist shelf to store some of dvds and blu-rays.

Any suggestions for where to find one?

Just bought 2 verdi dvd racks from officeworks for 80 bucks each. They hold around 190 dvds each. I cant post a link - cant access their site from my mobile but have a look in furniture>racks.
I also have 4 of the avec racks from jb, they are similar to the verdi but cost around 180 bucks.

You could try the Billy shelves from Ikea, quite a few members here have them.

I second the Ikea solution. But I prefer the more slimline Benno range as they are only 17cm deep - perfect for BD or DVD - whereas Billy is about 30cm deep, more suitable for books.

shelves or racks?

I have these pic2 from Howards Storage World (www.hsw.com.au) Wow, must have taken those photos a while ago, my HD collection consumes an entire rack now wink.gif

Not necessarily cheap (around $180 each from memory), but the look great and they hold quite a few discs).

was just looking at selby acoustics to get a link for another thread, and noticed that they are now selling the racks that I use

Only $109 each, which is half what I paid for them sad.gif

I'll try and get a photo tonight of the one I use for my BD/HD DVD collection.

I have a pair of Ikea Bertby wall mounted-cupboards with glass doors. The shelf heights are fully adjustable and can suit CD, DVD or HD case formats (or anything else for that matter).

I'm very happy with them and plan to purchase at least one more in the next month or so.

I have decorated a complete wall these:

http://www.ikea.com/au/en/catalog/products/70115521.

Mounted horizontally they are a CD rack, and vertically they are a DVD rack. Advantage is that they are cheap, disadvantage is that they need to be fixed to the wall.

I wish these could be sourced locally - my room would be full of these :

They're similar to the stands posted in the previous link (and ones that you'll see at JB) - however these one are much taller and expandable.

GEE... i almost wish I thought about these when the $A was at parity.

I got some aluminium rod from Home hardware that i used to extend some racks, but i found if i went over about 50cm wide the weight of the dvds deformed the rod, any wider you would need steel rod, or you could probably put something stronger inside the aluminium rod.
Mr.Bitey
Ahh its hollow?? - the stuff on the commercial units looks solid... 50cm hmm... and I guess thats with 11mm dvd cases - ive been using 7's (or are the 9's?) so would be even heavier..

I did find some lengths of threaded rod at the HW store... which would probably do (easier to attach..) some people use it for DIY equipment stands/shelving

Yep, its hollow with inserts pressed into the ends for a bolt to screw into. You wont need the inserts with the threaded rod, just nuts on the outside. The rods on the verdi and avec are actually made of steel, not aluminium.

Just reread your post, i see you were talking about using just the threaded rod, i was talking about using it inside the aluminium.
If you use just the threaded rod the cases will catch on the threads, yo can put a clear hose over it to stop this.

do they have dvd shelves with glass doors or something so dust doesn't collect on the items?

If you have alot of movies and some spare wall space shot for this combo! This way you can flick through your collection without looking at 100's of DVD spines.
