Hi all, now I'm trying to decide what my best option is. I'm after a region A player as I only have my Aus ps3, but I recently got a new PC and was wondering if I put a Bluray drive in it will I be able to watch the region locked titles through my PC? Would this be a cheaper option?

With the software Anydvd HD you can. But that is quite expensive at the moment without discount. AUD141 because of our weak dollar. Adding on top the drive and full version of software player. That is close to AUD400.

There must be other cheaper software besides Anydvd HD. I thought that the drive would come bundled with a program.

As far as I know Anydvd HD is the only one in the market to do this sort of thing. I heard some drives only come with player with stereo output only and you have to pay to upgrade. I also have a local PS3 and HTPC with BD/HDDVD drive for all formats. I paid USD50 for Arcsoft Totalmedia Extreme a few months ago with discount which the player alone today cost USD90.

I am using a media centre I built as my REGION B player, I use arcsoft and anydvdHD. I run a REGION A player (samsung 1400) I have it hooked up to my amp via the 5.1 inputs so I can have trueHD (wheres my IRON MAN). If you buy a region A player you will need to buy a good 240-110v stepdown (jaycar $100 ish) as well. I am happy with my setup completley. I got my player from ebay (a member here infact) and it works a treat. I noticed there are some on ebay REGION A samsung infact players at the moment, you might get a bargin. Go for it.

I found that anydvd HD doesn't region free a blu ray disc very well, You usually have to play with the settings of the player and anydvd before I play a FOX title, so I thought LEAVE it REGION B and use the Player as REGION A. Besides at the moment I usually watch 90% Region A discs, and in my opinion I find the REGION B discs lack the QUALITY sound options Region A disc get .

Not sure if it helps, but when I got my new laptop with blu-ray drive I really didn't want to fork out the price for AnyDVDHD as I really only wanted region free on the drive (not interested in copying BD's). I installed DVDregionfree so I could play DVD's from all regions and low and behold my drive now plays region locked Blu-ray discs as well.

This interests me, as I don't want to burn BD's just be able to watch region locked titles. My work mate can get me an LG/HD combo drive for $120. I'm thinking putting the drive in my PC is the way to go.
I also really don't have the room for another player, too many boxes in my room. I have my Beyonwiz, LG dvd player, PS3 and my Yammy amp, another box and I'll have to hang it from the roof!
