Prime has been having some problems with HD encoding since the Olympics, affecting many areas.

I don't know what the problem is, but it's most likely not your tuner, but Prime's HD transmission, especially if you were receiving Prime HD ok previously.

Some tuners are having problems and others aren't.

There's been a few reports of this happening with Prime in different areas.

If you are able to try your tuner at your friend's place and/or vice versa, it would eliminate it being a signal issue.

Obviously, if you have STB's, it's easy to do, however if you both have built-in tuners in your screens, that may be difficult.

Are you using an LG LST-5402P (160GB) or LST-5403P (250GB) twin tuner PVR?
I have had the same problem (in Canberra) since just before the Olympics.
I have just found many hits on forums for this issue with Newcastle & and other PrimeHD channel 60 broadcasts; They broadcast 576i & 1080i at different times of the day, flicking from 576i to 1080i when HD programming was available.
Has anyone found a fix? Is a firmware upgrade to the LG tuner needed?

Yes, a firmware upgrade is needed to fix the problem, but wait and keep checking the forums as the fix that LG has out now does not work, you get prime hd but the unit will turn off during add breaks. So hold off until LG gets the correct fix, apparently their techs in Korea are working on the problem but at this stage there is no firm timeline on when it will be available.
