Hi All

I'm wondering if someone can help me. I've had my Samsung P1400 for a few months now and I run it thru to my Samsung F8 HDTV via HDMI cable. Generally I have no problem watching Blu-Rays and dvds. However, every so often I'll put a DVD on and it will shrink the picture into a tiny box. I don't just get letterbox at the top & bottom, but also at the sides as well. It seems to only do it with dvds and generally with an aspect ratio of 2.35:1 maybe this is normal, but I dont think so.

I end up having to take the dvd out of my blu-ray player and hook up my standard dvd player to watch it - and that plays it fine. Just wondering if anyone else has had a similar issue and if it can be easily rectified.

Just as a side point, I have:
1) Up to date firmware on both TV & Blu Ray player
2) Testing the display settings on both TV and BR Player (16x9, Just=scan, etc)
3) Tried it with upscaling on & off

Any help would be much appreciated. Thanks.

The disks are probably non anamorphic transfers so the player thinks they're full frame 4x3 so shows them pillar boxed in the centre of the 16x9 display then letterboxes the image top and bottom.

Easy to check, what are the disks, do they say 16x9/anamorphic or 4x3 full frame transfer?

They say they are "Presented in 2.35:1 Aspect Ratio (Approx) 16:9"

I believe that is a "bug" in that player, you need to zoom in using your TV's zoom function.

Thanks, I assumed it must have been. I also have just noticed that all the dvds that it happens to are single layer - not dual. I wonder if it has something to do with that.
