You'll be pushing hard to get a HD Camcorder for $700

The closest would be the Panasonic HDC-SD9 camcorder. Grey imports from estores are around te $800+ mark

Other than that the next cheapest I know of is the Sony SR10 for ~$950-$1000.

Thinking about your post some more, do you mean High Definition (HD) or Hard Drive (HDD)? If you want a standard def camcorder with HDD and SD Card recording then there are plenty of options for that price. But like I said, high definition is a different kettle of fish.

EDIT: Canon have a good camcorder for indoor shooting (low light performance is good), but there are a few new camcorders due around October from Sony and Panasonic which should challenge the Canons

i did mean hdd, i was thinking of the sony dcr sr46, Panasonic SDR-H40, and the JVC Everio GZ-MG330, with my preference going for the sony
the only one i couldnt find was a good canon one, canon have a good name in cameras just couldnt find a video camera
any suggestions thanks

I would suggest you edit the title to read "HDD Camcorders" so as not to be misleading.

Im fairly sure im sold on the sony DCR-SR65, i can get it for around $750, are there any others that are worth looking at with same features, or is there any problems with the sony ?
thanks

First search brought up the Sony for $755.

I'd be bargaining hard for under $700 or a combination of tripod, bag, spare battery and media thrown in for $750-$800

Don't forget you'll need PC video editing SW as well which starts from ~$120 for a better finished product
