[Sorry if this has been addressed before but you can't search on this forum for "STB with DVI for PC monitor" because you can't use 3 letter words!]

Does anyone know of any decent STB which will allow direct connection to a PC monitor?

I know there are lots of STBs with DVI or VGA output, but I was hoping for one with pass-through, such as:
Zazz past products
The beauty of that model is it allows switching between PC and TV through the one input on the monitor.

The trouble with that model is that it is analog only, so I was instead looking for something like:
AverMedia AverTV STB
Beauty of this model is that it has a DTV tuner, performs pass-through, and even performs a PIP function (without any software needing to be installed on the PC!).

The trouble with that model is the reviews are pretty crappy:
TrustedReviews AVerMedia-AVerTV-Hybrid-STB-1080i

So does anyone know of any other models or brands?

Why not just buy a DTV card (or USB DTV) Tuner?

Cheers,

Because unlike a TV card, you don't need to turn the PC on.

Handy if you want to turn the big monitor in the study into an extra TV.

People turn their PC's off?! :-)

Just make sure your monitor can do 50hz :-)

any HD STB with VGA output will do it for you, however 1080i may not work due to vertical frequency being too low, in which case 720p should work.

I came across the following product from Asus:
Asus HDTV Suite.

Unfortunately, following this press release, the device has disappeared. It doesn't even feature on Asus' website.
I suspect they have gone back to the drawing baord, because they got a hammering in the blogs and forums about it only having an analog tuner, despite the "HDTV" in the name.

And sorry, the reason I didn't just want a bog-standard stb with dvi output was 2 fold. Unlike a normal stb:
- they are designed to explicitly match particular monitor sizes (e.g. 1600x1050), and
- if you happen to be using the PC, these units can actually perform the PIP function for you, without running any software on the PC, which is good for PC stability, if say you are already doing video editing on the PC.

Anyway, my search continues. Compro also make such tv boxes, but they too are all analog.
