Hey guys, im getting austar this coming wednesday and pulled my centex pvr out or the cubboard hoping it would be able to record shows i wanna watch later on austar, the funny thing is on the back of it it doesnt seem to state whether it has any av inputs, it doesnt really say there an output either lol, it has component 2 av's (maybe both out) and an RF...any possible why i can get the austar to record onto it? thanks

Most PVRs don't have any inputs other than RF for recieving FTA transmissions. A DVDR is the best option if you want to archive shows.

The best option is to get MyStar (the Austar PVR) it costs another $15 per month and can record 2 Austar programs at once or one Austar and one free-to-air while playing back a recorded program. I got one of these a couple of months ago and while it has a couple of bugs these will be fixed soon with firmware updates. You can time shift both Austar and Free-to-air programs.
One catch is that it copy protects the recordings so if you play them back they will not record on a DVD recorder unless you connect it via an image stabiliser such as this one http://digitalmegahouse.com.au/onlinestore...p;productId=118

I hardly use my HDD DVD recorder now as the MyStar unit is so easy to use.

PVRs can only take a digital signal through the RF input - no analogue.

At some points in the chain, yes. But I reckon that I can say with almost 100% certainty that any consumer-level device that has an RF output only outputs an analogue signal from that RF output.

DVB-T RF modulators are available, but as far as I know, they still aren't cheap.

This has been covered on the forum numerous times.

No, the RF modulator in your Austar box will only be a simple analogue one.
