Try checking the threads about the PS3 as a blu-ray player. You'll get some good info from those.

The latest Sound n Image mag has a Blu-ray / HDDVD review. Lists all the specs of everyplayer on the OZ scene. Don't have my copy here at work but it would beworth checking out.
PS3 definetely does it with the latest firmware upgrade installed

The PS3 is a good DivX/XviD player, plus media streaming functions and Internet access. DivX/XviD support is good, but not great - but it will play most of the downloaded stuff that are released by people who know what they're doing.

Oh, and it apparently plays games as well or something, but I wouldn't know anything about that.

The European version of the Panasonic BD30, the BD30E is said to be the first standalone player to play DivX but it hasn't been released yet.

I wonder if these BD /Divx players will also play HD Divx and x264?? They have the processing power to do it..

Well I havent tried a truly hidef divx but it copes with mkv with the wrapper redone to a vob.

The only issue I have is region encoding for dvds and BDs otherwise the Ps3 is brilliant.

I only have issues with dodgy divx but a quick reencode to divx sorts it out. takes about 15 mins per 1 hour clip, or I just stream it. But I normally convert and burn a series on dvdr and play them from that.

Quite a relevant story

http://www.betanews.com/article/DivX_is_co...hind/1205343577

"The forthcoming DivX-certified models announced are Panasonic's DMP-BD30EE, Philips' BDP7200, and Denon's DVD-2500BTC1B, DVD-3800BDC1B, DVD-3800BDSP and DVD-2500BTSP."

What players are available now under $350 with DIVX

Hi, I'm considering purchasing an LG BD300 but just read that the DVD playback is region coded and there is no hack for it (yet). The reason I went the LG is because it can play DivX. Any other players out there that support DivX besided PS3?.

Yep ; pio51/71 is sd region free and divx certified smile.gif
goldeneye0071
here's to hoping that Sony will step up and add divx playback to their other Blu Ray players.

Update: We're hearing "around $300" for the low-ender and "sub-$400" for the step-up model. Final prices should be out soon
