Hi All

First time poster here. Since the beginning of this week I've noticed a reduction in signal quality across all channels. I'm located in Downer with line of sight to Black Mountain and have always had excellent signals. Now I get fluctuating signal quality (0-70%), often leading to loss of picture, but signal strength remains pretty much constant at 100%. Analogue picture is perfect.

Just wondered if anyone else has noticed a change, or if not, any ideas where I might begin to track down the problem?

Cheers

you might all of a sudden be getting too much signal, go down to your local DSE and buy an attenuator, if this makes the problem worse, you can take it back for a full refund.

Hi aquosman,
a cursory look at the BMT signal gives me no reason to think that there is a problem with the system. Have you recently installed a new wireless device in your house (or perhaps your neighbours)? Interfereance from this type of device has been known to increase your BER or reduce the MER of the received signal, without affecting the received signal level. These 2 perameters combine in your DVB-T receiver to give you a "signal quality" indication.

Another quick fix may be to do a rescan of your receiver.

These are simple stabs in the dark, and if they draw blanks for you, perhaps you should try a different STB on your system to see if the problem appears there too

Can someone please explain why the WIN signal jumps around when watching the cricket.. It freezes... does all soughts of strange things... but only with WIN and the cricket.. tennis etc is fine on 7...

Also win HD... audio is out when people are talking....

Is the WIN signal cheap and nasty?

Yep, lots of people here have noticed that. Annoying.

WIN HD has one redeeming feature, though.....

abc2,
First question - are you located in Canberra - if so, where? it is important to know where you are getting your signal from.
Second question - does this problem only occur during the cricket or is it a systemic problem with WIN?

I have been watching the cricket on SD strong box directly off Black Mt Tower and not noticed the issues you speak of.

As for the HD stream having lip sync problems, this is due to the multiplexing of the audio with the video, perhaps in the local studio or further back in the distribution network. I suggest you do what others do, complain to WIN and see what happens. Unfortunately it seems to fall on deaf ears as with the higher audio level when compared to the other digital channels.

Yeah thanks fixer... I'm in Ainslie.. high up with direct line of sight to Black Mtn....

When I say jump around... it's when something fast happens.. bowling or batsman whacking the ball... it stutters.. freezes for a half second...

I know of someone else who has the same problem.. everything else is fine... cricket ok on Fox.

But it seems as though WIN is so far behind with HD... I rang SCTEN.. they reckon they'll have TEN HD on relay here by mid year... thats the one with the golf etc..

Abc2 I had the same problems as you are describing, some nights have been shocking and a friend who lives in Monash commented on the same speed up and freezing. I am in Fraser and have had the problems occasionaly with the Cricket maybe 2 of the ODI have been really noticable but most are fine.

Hey Guys,

First time poster here as well.

Firstly, I apologize for hijacking this thread but I'm not sure if my issue is to do with my setup or it's a general reception issue.

My problem is I get massive interference from Channel 7, specifically when capturing the V8 Supercars. I live in Kaleen ACT & I record using a DNTV Live USB Tiny Twin tuner to my PC. Previously, I was using a DNTV Live Pro T internal card with a 'rabbit ears' antenna setup from Dick Smith. Granted, it's not the most ideal but it worked fine 95% of the time.

So far this year, 3 out of 4 captures I have done regarding the V8's have been completely unwatchable. For example, I recorded Sunday's Eastern Creek telecast & it was crystal clear for the first 45 minutes. Then, BAM so much static came in that VLC chokes on the TS stream. I scanned through the rest of the file & the interference remains constant for the remaining 4 hours of the file. huh.gif

Whilst I was recording the V8's, I captured the WRC on SBS & there was not one glitch with the file. The steam errors with Channel 7 started before the SBS capture began. The weather was perfect yesterday as well.

Similarly, I recorded the MotoGP on 10 this morning & it had virtually no glitches in that file as well. I edit my TS files with VideoRedo TV Suite & it removes any bad audio or video frames to keep everything in sync. One of my Clipsal 500 captures had over 21000 bad frames removed from a 5 hour file!

I thought it was to do with interference with my PC as there are so many cables in the back of it that it's ridiculous. I specifically purchased the external USB tuner for the V8's to see if that made the situation any better. To no avail thus far. The Tiny Twin aerial sits about 1.5m away from the PC & it's about a meter off the ground. My signal strength for Channel 7 yesterday was 80% & the quality was 69%. I have had the same issues when the strength was at 86% & the quality was 100%.

The PC is in my room, I do have a Foxtel box as well. I make sure that is unplugged to reduce the chances of that causing interference. I do not touch my PC when it's capturing & I make sure my registry & other caches are cleaned out before I capture.

My problem seems to be specific to Channel 7. Any ideas as to what this might be? I'm totally baffled by it? sad.gif

Thanks Everybody.

Cheers

Steve.
