Hi all

I'm interested in the new 508xda Kuro's after having tried to find a cheaper 50MXE20 (they are still selling for $5000 over here), i can get one for $4500 at the moment (post Xmas sales but not for long), should i take the plunge now or wait for the end of financial year sales?

Reason i ask is that i'm looking at getting a Topfield 7000 HD PVR (but not liking the feedback im hearing sad.gif ) & a decent dvd player, Denon 1740 maybe, so it's adding up to quite a bit if you throw in a few HDMI cables as well. Guess you can see the look on the other halfs face blink.gif

Anyway, i've got a denon 2807 amp running current gear, with 2 HDMI in's & 1 out. Will be moving the 68cm crt, vcr,sd stb & dvd player into another room for kids.

any thoughts?

Im sure the others will have more weighted feedback re the pvr, however my general advice having *just* bought a 50 inch tv is to take the plunge. So long as you are comfortable spending what you will and it wont leave your mortgage repayments short, then buy now and start enjoying the HD era.

No matter what prices will always be going down and looking at these forums, the price of my P9 has come down already in 2 weeks. In the end...its a nonissue. The sooner you buy the sooner you can stop agonising over how long to hold off biggrin.gif But having said that...i understand your position completely and that little voice saying "wait a month and you can save on the tv, then put that to a dvd recorder" wink.gif

barrakooda,

4100 was quite easy to achieve in JB and Harvey Norman (in various stores around melb). Maybe wait a week or 2 for these prices to filter through (maybe after they clear old stock?!) - 400 diff should def help ur decision a lil bit

good luck!

Mate, wait short while, (couple of weeks) and then go for pio 50 at $4100 or thereabouts, then get yourself a DVDR, such as PIO 50HX, has a 160gig hd and standard def tuner, play divx etc, and can record on DVD if you need to save something to keep, upscales . You should be aiming about $650 to $700 on the dvdr player.

Order couple HDMI cables from Foxy, and for just tadd under $5k you will have a good system that does most things.

Regarding price i think it will shoot back up to $5800ish once the sales are over cause thats what they are retailing in Perth for at the moment.

As to the PVR seems they have a few issues? wacko.gif In regards to Dvd recorders i thought they could do SD not HD?

HDMI cables are cheap ($20-$40), no need to pay more.
If you have some component cables just use them until you can afford to replace them. Even when you do go HDMI you will probably find they makes bugger all difference after calibration.

The Pioneer will always be cheaper next week/month, but once you do get it you will be glad you didn't wait any longer. As for the HD PVR, the Toppy is a great unit especially with the latest FW (released about a week or two ago) and is a fairly cheap way (~$600 off eBay) to enjoy HD FTA shows on your new HDTV cool.gif

Can get the Pio 508xda , Digitalview DVR810 & Denon 1940 DVD player for $6300 all up, how does that sound?

For the curious i went the Digitalview DVR becuase they have an office in Perth & a 320g Hdd, the Top 7000 are around $1000 new here (dont want to get off ebay)
