As a new owner of the LX50 Kuro i'm wondering whether those with similar panels will be getting their sets professionally calibrated? From all reports the difference is remarkable. Here is a post that someone made over on the British AVforums site after he had his LX60 calibrated....

Hi
Had my TV calibrated by bumtious (top bloke by the way) yesterday and what i'm going to try and do in this post,is to say what improvement "has" been done to my set and do i think getting your TV calibrated by a pro is worth it.
First off............how much i tried i could not get my picture looking right and always though it could do a lot more, hummed and harred bit the bullet and now it's calibrated.
Freeview: Looking great,i don't watch much but the PQ has definitely improved.Sharper, way more brighter, less noise,vibrant...............the list goes on really.A big step up from previous, giving a accurate and much more enjoyable picture to watch. Very pleased.................her indoors should enjoy neighbours even more now.
SD dvd: Improvement immediatly obvious.Colours much richer/deeper,a lot more of a solid look to the PQ.Again a lot more sharper but looking more natural (hard to explain) at the same time.Shadow detail greatly improved,a lot more "pop" to the picture.
Tried "Twin Peaks" (love it ) oldish 4.3 SD dvd and from the opening sequence it was quite a shock. The colours and sharpness were so different (god knows how i watched it before ) it looked like the print had been remasterd.Colours stood out that just looked flat before, detail in the film was improved but quite a margin, must have been blurred out before.
But here's the strange thing..................even though it's an old print, nothing looked enhanced or artificial, just more natural and i suppose the way it's supposed to look.
Family guy,Lost,Blade.................such an improvement over how i used to view them. Why,oh why i use to doubt calibration i'll never know.
So,it's a big for SD dvd performance with a very noticeable improvement all round.
Now for what you've really bought the LX for................High definition dvd.
No words such as awesome, mind blowing or jaw hitting the floor will be used.
First disc HD Transformers: Immediatly striking was how much sharper it looked............incredible!Colours popped far greater than they did before and way and i mean this.........."way" more vibrant.
That 3D affect you get with HD (WOW affect) that "pop" everyone is always banging on about. Even in dark and murky scenes the picture leapt out towards you,far more detail and sharpness on back ground detail than what was present before, giving that 3D affect a much more startling hit.
Heroes on HD ................so much more sharper and detailed and the colours................gorgeaus!
My favourite transfer (bumtious liked it Cars.
3D effect improvement was like "bang" straight in your face!
The colour of McQueen's car (Gorgeaus red) was unbelievable,so deep and rich.............pause the picture and turn back to "Movie" (previous setting) and the whole picture looks flat and dull.
In fact that's a good comparasion,my own setting compared to the ISF setting, the picture looks like upscaled SD dvd................that's how much of a difference calibration has made.
The scene where Lightning McQueen and Sally drive through the mountains, just stretches on and on into the distance. The difference in detai and depth is.....shocking.
Sorry to go on,but i just thought if i post the difference that calibration has made to my TV it might help some people with doubts, like i used to.
Anyway, there's two settings........"night and day" which are locked so you can't fiddle, except for the ratio and that's about it............i think!
Thanks again to bumtious, who done a fantastic job calibrating my TV................highly recommended.

Certainly sounds convincing.

So who here is going to shell out more cash to calibrate their panel? Has anyone here had it done? Care to share your thoughts?

I am on Sunshine Coast Qld and have booked Aaron from Avical for his next visit up this way, which will be early to mid February.
He also suggested contrast be set at 40 until he calibrates.

May I ask what price he charges?

It depends on how many components you have connected that you wish to have calibrated. I have HD DVD and HD STB and from memory it was just under $400. Money very well spent I believe.
