I'm looking for a 26 inch LCD and have found the following so far:

Sony KLV26U300 with HDMI and support up to 1080p
Samsung LA26R71BDX with HDMI and support up to 1080i
Panasonic VIERA TX-26LXD70A with HDMI support up to 1080p

The Sony comes without and integrated HD DVB-T tuner.

I plan on using the LCD with a Philips DVD player that upscales to 1080p via HDMI.

I can't figure out whether the Panasonic comes with intergrated HD DVB-T tuner. Can anyone clarify?

Anyone got any recommendations?

I believe that 1080p on a 26" screen is a severe case of overkill. Unless you sit half a metre from the screen you will not see any benefit.

I was looking for a 32" with a 1080p display, but I was told that they are not available as no one can make them in a cost effective manner yet.
They weren't going to be available until sometime next year, including Sony.

So I am very surprised to read that they have 26" models with 1080p.

The smallest LCD I've seen with 1080p is 40".

You can plug an HD-DVD player or BR, or a High definition set top box into just about any TV on the market and it will display a picture, no matter what its screen definition.

Are you referring to a tv with an actual "full HD" pixel resolution of 1920 x 1080? I doubt if there are any 26 inch LCDs out there with that screen resolution, which usually starts at 40 inches and above.

What I mean is: I have a 37 inch LG LCD with a resolution of 1388 x 768. I can go out tomorrow and buy a Blu Ray player, plug it in and it will show, undoubtedly, a nice picture. My TV will then be "1080p enabled" or supported or whatever.

Doesn't mean that my tv actually dislpays full HD screen resolution, however.,

What's your budget? If you can stretch to about $3.2k, you get a free 46" F8 Full HD Samsung along with the LA26R71BDX

Given that you can buy one brand new at Dick Smith for $941, I don't think so.

The TX-26LXD70A includes an integrated HD DVB-T tuner but there are no 1080p sets under 37" of any brand available in Australia. Only 16:10 LCD computer monitors allow Full HD in a smaller form.

I also seek a 66cm LCD HDTV, for a dorm room, but have been unimpressed by what's on offer. LG's 26LC7D and NEC's NLT-26HDB3 fill out the brand names listed while Philips, Sharp and Toshiba have abandoned the segment altogether.

The budget brands are usually best avoided but with 26" premium models lacking the latest features and technology of their bigger cousins, build quality & warranty appears to be more of a difference than picture quality. The Tedelex TE-26B01 and the Telefunken QLT26B09 seem to be identical with the Palsonic beating them on spec.

Personally, I'd still prefer the Panasonic but it's over priced and often dearer than the TX-32LXD70A. Ludicrous! So I'm leaning towards the Hitachi with it's IPS panel and 24hz capability and I'll probably grab one in the post X'mas sales.
