Hi all.

My father in-law is searching for a new PVR - preferrably a twin tuner HD model; scart input would be great (older style tv) but assuming most have HDMI/Component also (for future LCD tv upgrade).

I have been looking through the various shops and have found the amount of PVRs models seems to be shrinking, the only models available from the beyonwiz ones are atleast a year old.

Can someone let me know:

Best PVR options in budget range of up to $500.
Best PVR option with budget of up to $1000.

Are any of the manufacturers bringing out their new models anytime soon - toppy, LG, sony etc? Have noticed the toppy is still ticketed for around $1099 at JB and its a yr old model...

Up to $500 you can get either a Toppy 5000 or MP (Add a ICEBox and 7 day EPG for $150)
Also the Humax Smart is a nice simple snazzy SD twin tuner and interface (www.staticice.com.au)

Both are SD

Cheapest HD is the LG HD PVR (1.7 tuners) at around about $600.

You should be able to get the Toppy 7000 under $1000 pretty easily (if you can find one - call the supplier).

The BW is probably the best bet to date for stability and features but it will max out your $1000 - check ther forum/website

Alternatively the Channel 7 Tivo is comming in ~April next year and while that will be a bit subscription based it is likely to be a very nice unit.

The Toppy is nearly one year old and the BWs are anywhere from 2-8months old depending on the model. Release date aside, the manufacturers are constantly releasing firmware updates which is improving these models in performance and functionality. I believe Sony aren't releasing a new model.
