Some may know that I picked up some pre loved redgum speakers and amp which I've put with another forum based sale, an Arcam CD73. I've been very pleased with the result of this set up in my study however I couldn't help but think that I could do with some bottom end reinforcement. An issue I put down to restricted placement options and room acoustics. Enter ASLAN Acoustics and the CW-12.
I wasn't after anything too large and was actually looking for a 10" sub of sorts as I it doesn't take much to fill my study(3x5m). For the money I think it is going to difficult to beat Andrews offering.
For a small fee more than the rrp you can get (depending on availability) a custom wood. SOLID wood, not just a veneer! something which I'd highly recommend for those that like to have something a little unique or better matched to existing furniture or components. Fit and finish is fantastic and you can see that a lot of care and attention to detail has been vested into it's build. That's not to say that the standard finish isn't a good looking bit of kit either!!!! There was a Pro-12 being finished off and another CW-12 in black waiting to be delivered, the black unit is a very handsome item indeed. I've seen photo's of it on the net however I can tell you they DO NOT do it justice. I was actually put off buying black for that reason, however having seen it in the flesh now, I wouldn't think twice about ordering one in black if I had of known. The Jarrah of the Pro-12 being made was also stunning to look at. My CW-12 is made of Sydney Blue Gum.

Before I left I asked Andrew about any set up tips? He didn't have much to say other than not to put in the corner as it would produce a horrible boomy bass, fair enough. I got home plugged it in turned it on and have been glued to my chair for 3 hrs. Matching it or getting it to seamlessly integrate with my existing gear was something I was a little worried about but I then understood why Andrew didn't have to say much about it's set up. It sounded great from the get go I only have the bugger turned up 1/4 of the way, tweaked the phase knob a tad and voila!!!!
The bass is everything that I could ask for and it has filled the void perfectly. It is solid and punchy with the faster tracks, be it the kick of a bass drum in some rock or the doof of some pop/dance/club stuff. At the same time it is delicate enough portray the most subtle of low notes.
Over all I think it is an extremely solid performer and for the money it certainly is hard to go past. The service and communication you get with someone whom is so entrenched in our little community can't be beaten and the result is one happy customer! It fit in with my existing system without a fuss, it looks fantastic and sounds even better. Please send me any inquiries as I am always happy and ready to help out if I can.

Granted, buying without an audition isn't everyones version of how to best buy audio equipment but with work and home duties I am not left with much time to run around Sydney auditioning. Not to mention the fact that I have lost a lot of faith in retail stores and I simply couldn't be bothered dealing with people that aren't into what they do (there are exceptions).

I do apologise for my ramblings as it's hard to think and type whilst enjoying the music so much smile.gif

Looks very well made. Does he send them or do you have to pick them up from somewhere?

If you have a chat to him I think you could work somethign out. The other two projects he was working on at the time are being delivered personally by Andrew later this week. Picking it up was a personal preference...that way I could have a gander at some of his other goodies smile.gif
