Bought this today to go with our 32" LCD for the bedroom.
Pic as good as I'd expect for the price ($73) so no complaints there, only the audio doesn't work!!!
That is I've plugged two speakers in to the L + R rcas on the back and you can't hear anything.
Pushed it to the max volume (23) and it's faintly audible. Grrrrr.

Anyone else experienced similar drama's or can offer a solution?

Surely I don't need an amp?! That's in my living room.

Hi ekiwi
Have you checked if the volume on your TV is low also and not just the STB. If the TV volume is low (check using your TV remote) then you need to turn it up as most STB's are affected by the level of volume output on your TV.

Can either of you two guys - or anyone else - tell me why I can't get ABC, ABC2 or 10 through my Teac Sdb450?

I live in Melbourne and bought the unit today. I have tried rescanning probably 6 times and every other combination of trouble-shooting I can think of. Am I doing something wrong or is the unit defective in some way?

I was thinking of getting one. But I think I'll stick with my Strong 5022 ($78 Harvey Norman) for now. Pic is good even though remote and GUI are crap. Can someone tell me why you can get a $80 dollar DVD player with a decent remote but not so with a STB.

If i've read this correctly you tried to connect speakers directly to the Audio L + R outputs of the STB

Those outputs will not drive speakers on their own, they are only line level audio, you will need an amp of some sort.

Just bought this and wondering whether to swap, I can get all channels fine sig strength and quality, however my local ch9 (win tv) always is cutting out and audio is rubbish. is it the STB or the frequency it is on?

Grumpalumpa
Bought this unit ($65) because the sales guy said it was easy to set up - and he was right!

I have had no problems with it and it has cleaned up the pic on my crappy Samsung RPLCD nicely.

I can get all channels BUT for some reason my VCR cannot find ABC or TEN. Before the STB I couldn't get ABC or TEN analogue either. I don't know whether it is the STB, the TV or the VCR?

Other than that no complaints, although you have to wait a few secs for the Guide to update itself when you change channels from the day before.

Hi RiK81

Same problem here although I have had my unit for 2 years and no problem on Ch9 except for sound problems in last few days and sometimes 'no or bad signal' message. Now can't get Ch9 at all.

Antenna is ok 'cos my Digicrystal PVR picks up all channels fine.
Grumpalumpa
Mine froze the other day and went a bit wonky.

Screen froze on the menu and when I tried to change channels on the remote it would mute instead. Clock was an over hour behind current time as well.

Powered it off and then on again and it is back to normal.
Grumpalumpa
Hmmm, a new problem now sad.gif

Noticed the clock was an hour behind again. Rebooted and now the clock won't work, only shows 00:00. Tried unit reboot and mains reboot and that didn't work.

No help in the setup menu either with clock settings, everything appears to be set correctly.

Next step is a return to system default which means scanning all the channels in again.

I got the same unit and yes the pic is clear and easy to set up with low latency in changing channels, but on the other hand I think it's a load of rubbish. Lockups, garbled screen when exiting Teletext, poor EPG, poor english, the list goes on for me (although I got it for free so I can't really complain). Teac now replaced the model with the SDB451 -- maybe they knew the SDB450 had issues.

The thing that currently annoys me the most is the onscreen EPG which is only updated the SECOND time the display is shown, as described by Grumpalumpa (eg, change to channel 10, it shows the programme names on screen from when it was last updated, switch to another channel then back to channel 10 and the EPG is updated and shows the current and next programmes).

Does anyone else have this issue apart from Grumpalumpa and myself which they have fixed? Teac apparently dont provide downloadable firmwares for this unit despite the RS232 on the back. I also find the EPG feature takes a long time to load and when it does it doesnt always show a full screen of info. Gotta move forward a day and then go back just to see the guide for the next 2 hours sometimes. I suspect the issues are related and i'm hoping it is just me and not everyone (so I can get a warrany fix!)

Hi all, bumping this topic becuase im having a simmilar problem to Ozydog. I used to be able to pick up ABC , ABC2 & channel 10. Then I lost all of them but not the others. Then i gained channel 10 but lost SBS. This happened as i have been factory reseting it & doing Auto Search. Don't know that much about Set top box's and am getting pretty frustrated trying to make heads and tails of it... anyone able to help?
