I've heard that the Sony's sold by that company were grey imports ie. no local Australian warranty.
I'm not sure if it's true or not but it would pay to check before buying from them.

i was comparing these two bout a month ago and ended up going with the Sony due to the 100Hz feature.... couldn't be more happier... the pictures are fantastic!!!

I paid $1970 for the KDL-32D3100 at Bing Lee. That was about a month ago. I thought it was a pretty good price.

If the case is not a huge deal to you look at the V series everyone that I have spoken to including the sony rep yesterday said that motionflow the way it was atm was really not anything special, it is likely something that will be great with improvement but the implementation of all the tv's i have looked at is barely noticeable ( tested on HD FTA , DVD , HD DVD ) I am not a sport watcher or gamer though so your needs may be totally different than mine smile.gif

The D series you should be able to get it for about 1800-1850 including an extra year extended warranty from HN and the V series shoudl cost you around the 1400 mark with 2 years extended no worries , my dad picked a D series yesterday over the V series but only based on the look of the TV, we where literally there for hours and saw FA difference.

I just purchased a 40" D Series but again the decision was based on the case not the specs , I was in line to pay for the 40" V series VERY HAPPY with my decision until my girlfriend said she would pay the extra to get the TV she liked the look of lol rolleyes.gif

anyways imo you won't go wrong with the D3100 from what i have seen however whether you need to go the D series instead of the V series to be happy is a totally different matter

As I've also been asked to help a friend decide on the Sony vs the Panasonic (I own a panasonic), I would be very interested in comments from Sony owners on:

1. The picture-in-picture function on the Sony models. On the Panasonic, you can select any of the inputs (except for HDMI), digital or analogue TV channels as the "2nd picture"

2. How quickly you can change channels on the Sony. I've heard that with the X and XBR models (and personally found with the old X model) that channel changing is very slow on the Sony's as you have to wait till the TV actually displays the next channel before you can move on to the next one.

Many thanks

HN - Melbourne - Sony prices have just come down in last couple of days, so didn't have to screw too hard - plenty of hype on Panasonic 700, but at Sony's new price I suspect many potential Pana buyers would now think again - the Sony is clearly the best.
jagg
went to hn today best they would do was $1800....could u tell me which hn in melb ?

The HN I picked it up from for that price was Chadstone - I would expect other HN's to match it. Good Luck. Cheers
wilbur
well im in bentleigh who is interested in a group buy if we go in and say we went a couple of these we have more of a show to get a good price i also have a friend who might be able to do better than Hn im not keen on getting from them but if they come up with a good price then why not but i will play them of with their competition first .
my moorabbin store is around the corner here i will give them a try on wednesday to get some prices of them ,here they dont play the game too well here from my last eperience but i like to try them again just to tell them that i can get a better price from xyz store so if you are interested in a group buy email me and have your cash ready .
then when i find the best price we will go and get them .

I need to know how many people are willing to buy .

if stores like this cant even match each other especially when they trade under the ssame name etc...........we gotta let them know and simply dont buy from them......

i would drive from morrabbin to knox to save 100.00 bucks!!

Hi guys,

I came across this discussion when looking for info on the Panasonic 700a. I had decided that was what I was going to get but you guys seem to be pushing the Sony model. Can anyone tell me why they think the Sony is better? I want to make sure I get the best TV. Many thanks for the input!!

Cheers, Stephen
agentsmith
i comapred them side by side at chadstone myer...
sound quality is better and i reckon picture is better too....

the sony is a lovely screnn and has a great finish.
wilbur
well i have not had any more people interested in a group buy so i cant really go back and haggle we dont have the numbers wacko.gif
Big.Dan
Here's the best I managed to find for a 32D:
Preston HN said they could match $1,700
Elizabeth Street JB said they could beat this and sold me a 32" D series for $1,680 (last Friday, 9 Nov).
Bought on credit card so I get an extra year of warranty as well.

Group buy was tempting, but I am too impatient for that! biggrin.gif
stephen247
Thanks for the feedback Agentsmith. I assume that they share similar features so it comes done to personal preferences. I'll search for a Sony and see if I can do a side by side comparison as well as I think the only way to go is a unit with 100MHz.

Wilbur, sorry but I probably won't be in the position for buying for about 3-4 weeks - but if your still looking then as well I'd be interested. I'm out at Narre Warren so I'll do some investigation of prices out there over the coming weeks and see what I can come up with.

Cheers, Stephen
stephen247
Hmmm, browsing thru the catalogues this morning, I saw the TX-32LXD700A for $1349. Seems unbelievable for a 100MHz...

Cheers, S.
taf_kid
Hi everyone, is it now possible to get a 40D3100 for less than $2000?
zorg
which catalogue specifically stephen 247
stephen247
Hi Zorg,

It was their "Make it a Christmas to Remember" catalogue. Also at this link HN Catalogue. Page 10 to be exact. But in saying that I was reading the paper over lunch and it had a HN promo and showed the Pana 100MHz for $1599 (700a) and the normal (70a) for $1329. I wonder if it was a mis-print in the catalogue and wonder if they have to honour that price - b/c it definitely states...

"$1349 Panasonic (32”) 81cm High Definition LCD Television.
100Hz for clearer fast-moving action"

Cheers, S.
selze
The $1349 price is a misprint and I've now seen a couple of HN's with a statement say this stuck on there 32LXD700's. The only thing is maybe getting a competitor to match the catalogue.
Kirk
Just saw the Sony 32D at Dick Smith Woden, ticketed price 1670 (give or take 10 or 20). Didn't ry to get them down, but imagine it wld go for under 1600.
wilbur
clive peters 1620 they wont budge anymore
agentsmith
anyone got good prices on the 40 inch??
jagg
anywhere in melb i can get the sony 32d3100 for around $1600 or so ?

anyway, what's the best price for Pana TD-32LXD700A?
cheapest i could get is $1560 @ Myer.
HN and JB : $1600 (+199 for 4 years extended warranty)

cheers
supaboi
guys!

help me out.

im stuck in between the two!! which one is better for PQ?? I really don't like the built quality of the panasonic (pretty dull IMO). But not sure if its worth the extra $200 or so. Ive seen the two screens at JB but the sources were pretty crap.

Sony or Pana
Ramskii
Id go with the pana but i am somewhat biased since i have it smile.gif I looked at the sony 32D and the sets that i saw had clouding issues which would drive me crazy. I know I would keep looking out for this issue and it is only a couple of cm's at the top/bottom left and right of the screen but i demand perfection smile.gif

P.S Im still very happy with my pana.
