Back in May 2007 I bought one of these DVD players. I like it however I discovered last nite that it is not region free when I put in a R1 disk.

Has anyone found a update hack for this player and done it??

There is a site http://www.pioneerfaq.info/english/dv490.p...ion=Multiregion that has a binary file to make ift region free but i am reluctant to risk killing the machine without some else havoing done the update.

Ant DV490 owners region freed their player and what file did you use??

Thanx in advance.

Most Australian retailers receive stock that has already been modified by Pioneer Australia (to be multiregion) so you probably won't get many responses here. Be wary though, I killed my 676a after applying firmware obtained from that site!

Thanx. I'll contact the Pioneer agent here in NZ and find out why it's not region free out of the box..

Thanx. I contacted Pioneer NZ yesterday and it seems that when they run the region free production line before they ship them to the retailers some get missed. They said bring it in and we'll sort it. Todays it's getting sorted..

I'm pretty sure the Pioneer's can only play DivX on CD media - though unofficially they can play on DVD/DVD-R/DVD-RW media
