I would like some advice on purchasing a DVD recorder.

Currently I have a Humax PVR-SMART and some programs that need archiving.

I know that I can move the files from the PVR to a PC massage them and burn them to a DVD, but this is not an option available to me at this time.

So, I am asking for advice on a simple and reliable DVD recorder that can be connected to the Humax to record a single show.

I do not want to use the DVD recorder as an additional recorder, or even have it permanently connected to the system.

This is obviously a price sensitive purchase, but I am willing to spend what is necessary based upon recommendations as there are a lot of 'unknown' name brands out there that just might be good enough.

Thanking the collective wisdom of the DTV forums in advance for your help.

For a basic recorder the following are suitable:

Samsung DVD-VR330 DVD Recorder-VCR Combo in online stores for about $380. The included VCR is probably a waste of money, unless your current unit is old and you have a lot of Tapes that you want to transfer to DVD.

LG DR7922W DUAL LAYER MULTI FORMAT DVD RECORDER - sold for $152 on Ebay. All you need for your purpose.

WINTAL X-40 DUAL FORMAT DVD RECORDER - sold on Ebay for $138.50. This one comes with an inbuilt analog TV tuner and will also do a good jpb.

Wintal - DVDRX250 DUAL FORMAT DVD HDD RECORDER 250GB HD - sold on Ebay for $345. This is a high quality unit (I have one) and makes superb recordings. It has a 250 Gb hard disk which makes editing much easier. Recordings can be made to the hard disk, edited, then transferred to DVD. It has an Analog TV tuner.

Stick with these three brands and you will be OK.

Good luck!
