H E L P !!! I've had this recorder for a couple of years now. In the past I learned, from experience, that the blessed-thing would only eat top-shelf DVD-R/RW blanks. Now the stupid thing has started to chuck a mental every time it stops recording.
Usually it throws up a message saying "system error, try power off and re-booting." I do as suggested only to find that the darned thing will no longer read the disk it just finished recording...often they just go into a loading loop without any further action. Result? Instant coaster! I tried contacting Samsung...helpful as mud! Any technically-minded people have any ideas on this? Anyone with a similar problem??? Any assistance greatly appreciated.

Hi Doc,

Sorry to say that I returned mine after a short time. Its dvds couldn't be played properly in another Samsung player (yes, I did finalise them, they would start then freeze at the first chapter mark) and Samsung were as much use as a hip pocket in a singlet. It was IMHO a classic example of an entry level recorder with issues and precious little support. The last I heard from Samsung support at North Ryde was that their enquiries to Japan had 'found something', then deafening silence.

Sorry.

Rob.

Thanks Crossy@home. Samsung...this thing is a SH#TBOX!!! I suppose I'll have to search out another reliable but low cost unit.

Good Luck with that mission Doc.

That's where I started, first with an LG7922, then the Samsung, then Toshiba DR S1, then Hitachi RX 7000A, then Sony HX210. They all had quirks and lack of functionality. When I refer to lack of functionality, I mean that it would not work as the manual said it would, I had no complaints about functions that I wanted but were absent.

I actually finished up with a Sony HX910, which has surpassed both my expectations and my budget, but it just does its job with no fuss. Since then, the HDD DVDRs with digital tuners have come down in price (Murphy's Law) quite a bit. Depends on your budget, I guess, but prices are generally lower now.

Let's know how you get on.

Rob.

A mate of mine works at a large electrical retailer and has secured a returned & repaired Chinese cheapy for me for 99 bucks. It comes with a 12 month warranty and the techs that looked at it reported that the previous owner didn't know what they were doing...no faults found. I'll get the thing on Wednesday and report back to you.
