A friend recently bought the Panasonic DMR EX85 and to his surprise discovered it was not region free out of the box (a great shock, since all Pannys have until recently been region-free). I had planned to buy one too, but won't be doing so if it's a matter of shipping it back to an authorised repairer for adjustment. Why on earth have Panasonic gone this way (with so many people travelling overseas, and shopping online)??

After being a loyal Panasonic supporter, they've lost me with this policy change.


As an alternative, is the current range of Sony HDD DVRs region-free?
