I've not been able to receive a signal for channel 9 for ages now, get 'No or Bad Signal. It is only happening with channel 9. Just wondering if anyone else has experienced this issue. If so, were you able to rectify it and/or how did you fix it?

I've spoken to Strong in regards and they reckon it is an antenna issue because I am picking up all the other channels. I've performed a manual scan for channel 9 (Ch 8) and the frequency seems fine.

Any ideas/comments?

what kind of antenna are you using? I have this issue on my bedroom STB with a DSE amplified rabbits ears antenna. A set of non amplified picks up CH9 ok, as does using the roof antenna

Were you able to fix the issue at your place? I have an external/roof antenna (don't know anything about the make/model of it). Weird thing is that it used to work (Ch 9), then it just decided to stop. Was this the same as you?

You've probably got a borderline reception margin, and CH9 (Digital 8) is exhibiting problems.

Where are you located? Do you know which transmitter site you are using?

You may have too much signal when you use the amplified one. It's also quite possible you have too many channels being received by the indoor antenna, and it's amplifier can't cope with trying to boost all the channels. Some filtering may help in this case.

If you have not seen the dba info on 'Digital TV Reception - Houses' here, or the pdf guide on 'Installing Basic DTTB Systems, then maybe have a look at them. They will explain the 'digital cliff' and other related aspects of digital reception.

I'm in Baulkham Hills NSW.

It would be the main Sydney transmitters at Willoughby/Artarmon/Gore Hill then I think. Check the dba locator guide here.

Just checked it. Yep, you're right. Any suggestions as to a fix?

Sorry about that, didn't get around to that part...smile.gif.

It's a bit strange that it is only effecting Nine digital (CH8). That sits in the middle part of the reception spectrum for you in Band III (digital channels 6 - 12). However, you should probably be posting in the NSW, Sydney viewers forum , where you might see others complaining of channel/transmission problems.

Can you borrow another STB to try and hook that up and see if you have the same issue? Are all other channels OK, just Nine (Dig 8) giving trouble? Another STB would perhaps show different results as it would have different tuner performance.

Please have a look at the doc shown in my sig below, that may help explain some aspects. It covers things like cabling, as well as signal strength, quality and the necessary margins with them.

Your received signal really needs to be measured properly to see exactly what is going on. You say you have an external antenna. Is it yours only, or a shared antenna with other apartments/flats etc?

I'll check out the posts there, hopefully there is a solution there.

No problems at all with the other channels, only channel '8'. I have a cheap no frills unit in the front room and another unit with HD. The HD unit displays the ch 8 signal with no problems, through the same antenna outlet, I guess that means that the problem is in the Strong 5390... right? I'll hook up the no frills one in the same antenna outlet to see what happens.

It is just for this house, not shared. Though now that I think about it. The reception in the other room is pretty bad so I'm wondering if the cabling or antenna installation is the problem. It was all done before we moved in.

That would be a good test.

There may well be problems there. See if you can find an outlet where all units work, then move to the next outlet and so on. See which units (Strong, No Frills, HD) have problems.
