We recently purchased the Harmony 1000i and my husband has had problems with programming it. He has spent considerable time entering and rechecking it. He has put all components in but for example if you want a DVD it will not select AV3 on the plasma to play the DVD even though he told it to. It also will not turn on the tuner - instead it turns on the TV! We are trying to find an installer to program it for us and if anyone knows of anyone in Melb I would appreciate it if you could give details. I have tried Logitech support but they dont even bother with a reply. It is a shame because it is supposed to be great and we waited for it since the beginning of December.

You can fix all that yourself if you want to. You will need to go into the Device setups and check/adjust Input and Power settings as appropriate.
However
, it might be easier to just phone tech support(don't email) and get them to do it all for you.

I just picked mine up today and setup was easy enough
the only thing they didn't have was my supratek pre-amp but a simple learn of the original remote soon fixed that.
i have setting for the lounge room for tv with set top box and dvd
i then have 3 setting for the HT room, one for listening to music, one for HD DVD and one for blu ray
Has turned on everything as programmed and picked the correct inputs every time
I was a little sceptical about getting one, but i must say, after half a day with it, i absolutely love it, as does the wife.
It also looks very sexy up on the low line cabinet when not in use

I think I posted it another review thread - the screen brightness is good. Think of it as being as bright as a laptop screen I guess.
However .......................
I couldn't get it to programme correctly. I found it very slow and cumbersome to get the touchscreen to react . It also has a very narrow infrared beam so you need to aim it quite precisely at your equipment.
At the time there was a firmware upgrade but I couldn't get it to load, even after calling support. I thought the firmware was in its infancy so it might be a lot better now some 1 year later.
I sent mine back not a week after I got it and happily went back to my 880.

My droplet cd player is the biggest pain with the original remote, having to point straight at it, and sometimes its a hit and miss.
With the 1000i it works an absolute treat. I can point it anywere in the room and it controls the droplet perfectly. This alone for me is worth it.
It also dos the same with my supratek pre-amp. Haven't tried it on all my components as yet, but so far for me it has been a great device.
From setup which didn't take too long as all my devices apart from the supratek pre were available. To the setting of activities and to customising each device as i wanted.

Could someone please tell me if these Logitech remotes (not just the 1000i but also the 785 and 525) allow you to save your configuration to a PC? In other words, if for some reason I lose all the time spent programming the remote, can I just connect it to the PC and restore my work? or do I have to do it all again?
thanks in advance for the advice

Yes they are saved on your PC and also online so if you lose your remote, upgrade etc, you just plug in the new one, "Update remote" and in about 2 mins you have all your settings back again

Very easy and comforting to know easpecially if you have spent many hours setting it up

I think the config is actually
only saved on a Logitech web server. It is on your PC briefly when it is downloaded to the remote, and tiny bits of it when you learn a device's key presses.
This could be a problem if Logitech ever bankrupts, but I suspect your Harmony remote won't last that long

I have had mine for about 2 months now, and it is stuffing up all the time.
Ever since I tookit home it has been making a buzzing sound when it is first put on the charger for exactly 15 seconds (until the screen dims). Now it keeps on freezing up and I have to take the battery out of restart it.
My problem is I bought it off eBay. Should I return it to Logitech to fix or will they not accept it because I got it of Ebay. I bought it brand new though,
Any suggestions pls...
Thanks Sten.

That's not good to hear sten,
I got a 785 from eBay about 6 months ago. Absolutely love it. No complaints what-so-ever.
If you're going to take it to Logitech, you'll need a Tax Invoice from the shop you brought it off eBay. If you simply brought it off someone off eBay, and they don't have a business or a way of giving you a Tax Invoice (it has to have an ABN), you'll have next to no luck getting it repaired under warranty from Logitech.
--Also--
My 785 makes a small buzzing sound whenever the light is on. I think this is just normal of all Logitech Harmony 785 remotes. Although my remote has never frozen.

Sten, that seems to be a common fault with the 1000i. There is apparantly a firmware upgrade to resolve this although I am not too sure about the f/ware numbers. I had the same sort of thing but since I 'updated' my settings it seems to have fixed the random freezing. Even if you just make a small adjustment to your settings and then update it, it may help.
Also have you checked out the Logitech Harmony Forums......here is a link:
http://forums.logitech.com/logitech?catego...remote_controlsI am on my second one now as the first froze completly and therefore got a replacement. Buying locally and not over the internet means I can drop it off at the local vendor if anything goes wrong.
I am now very happy with mine although I do have a 'cheaper' version stashed and programed in case anything else should go wrong......we are dealing with mass produced consumer electronic products here after all even if they are rather expensive remote controls.
Any way hope this helps a bit......

Panasonic input switching is a pain. Call tech support and they'll sort it for you...you'll probably need tier 2 though.
Shonky*
Nov 21 2007, 09:50 AM
You don't need tier 2 support at all or even first level. It's quite simple to select the input directly. At least my 2007 42PX7A I can select inputs directly. They are just labelled like "HDMI1", "HDMI2" etc. It's also a bit quicker cycling sources like it did by default.
Just go to the devices tab and select troubleshoot for the TV
TV never selects correct input
It's in there somewhere. I can't see it on mine since it's set up correctly.
Mine lists:
The remote currently thinks that your device has the following inputs:
# AV1
# AV2
# AV3
# PC
# HDMI
# TV
The remote will select inputs this way:
# To go to "AV1", the remote will send the command 'InputVideo1'
# To go to "AV2", the remote will send the command 'InputVideo2'
# To go to "AV3", the remote will send the command 'InputVideo3'
# To go to "PC", the remote will send the command 'InputPC'
# To go to "HDMI", the remote will send the command 'InputHdmi1'
# To go to "TV", the remote will send the command 'InputTuner'
edit: This was based off my Harmony 785, but I'm positive the 1000i would be the same.

I have the Harmony 1000i, just got to two days ago.
A few surprises:
Works with all my gear. Teac STB / Samsung RPTV / Pioneer Record DVD.
It it also worked with the DVICO Receiver that came with a DVB-T card and controlled DTV, PowerDVd, WinAMP and Media Centre on the HTPC*.* The Ir receiver is USB based and utilises Standard HID (Human Interface Device) driver.
With HID or third program,
http://www.byremote.com.au/downloads/defau...CLASS=UTILITIES the skies the limit with PC. As well this program:
http://www.eventghost.org/wiki/ReceiversAssigned ABC, 2, 7, 9 10 SBS bit mapped logos to channel buttons into it. Very nice.
I'm having trouble though in learn mode. Does not work with ANY REMOTE sending IR signal to it in LEARN mode.
Any other takers for simular situation about learn mode?

It took me a while to get this right, now it works quite easily,
Make sure you point the other remote at the BOTTOM side of the Harmony (not the top edge as I first did...)
Keep the remotes about 10 cm apart.
Use the remote button as you normally would, ie, a single brief press - dont hold it while waiting for the Harmony to say it worked (or didn't).
After the brief press of remote button, wait a little while, the Harmony will usually then give a prompt of some sort.
Hope this solves your problems

Then Ive got to use the help button to correct it.

Sounds like you need to expand the delays to the plasma so it has time to react to your commands. Slowly increase the inter device delays and if that doesn't help, then increase the delays in the plasma.

You need to increase the Power On Delay for the plasma (under Device options -> Adjust delays). Basically the plasma takes a certain amount of time after it has turned on until it is ready to accept commands. The Power On Delay allows for this.
Don't be afraid to increase it quite a bit...my projector has a Power On Delay of 15 seconds for example. You can use your factory remote with a stop watch to get an idea of the delay you'll need.

Hello.
Just wanted to ask if anyone has either a Topfield pvr 5000 or 7000 and if so are they using this remote with these two devices?
The reason that I ask, and I am totally clueless in this area, ie how does the 1000i do things like delete and edit recordings on the 5000 and delete recordings on the 7000?
Is it easy to get the 1000i to do the same functions as the Topfield remotes such as programming a recording schedule etc?
Anyone who can shed light on this for me?
cheers
Alan
