I am pretty sure this was one of the major bugs that TEAC know about. Well at least I have told them anyways, not sure if Apchoo had this bug. Had a quick scan back through 11 pages and only found a few ppl with this bug.
It wasn't noticeable to me ... it was only when other people reported it that I thought back and I probably had it a couple of times in the my 4 weeks of 4.7.29.3. Hardly worth a mention on my part.

Are you sure you have 4.7.29.2 and not 4.7.29.3, because if you have that firmware was only released to the beta testers and it was not really all that good, when compared to 4.7.29.3. I will not go into the details as to whatthe bugs were.
Sorry, that was a typo, I was refering to 4.7.29.3.

I can be really bad some days you can not watch it. You have to soft reset it it sometimes it then comes good and sometimes you have to turn it off at the wall, it is really getting anoying. I have reported it so lets see what happens. Not sure when the new FW is coming though.

The fact that it is not an official release, i.e. not the one available at the official download URL in Australia, means that we have reason to hope for at least one more release. You would certainly expect the drop-outs to be fixed (it's such a basic flaw) and many of us are hoping that the file share problem will also be fixed.
I'm waiting, that's for sure.

Hi there,
Teac has just released a new beta firmware to beta testers. The major fixes are:
- Network connectivity
- Intermittent picture and sound mute
This is most likely my final post to this thread as I no longer own a Teac HDRM7250. I wish you the best of luck with your unit and I sincerely hope that Teac will continue to support the product in improving its stability and implementing new features.

What I would really like to see on the unit is an option to pass through the signal unconverted. That is, if the broadcast is 1080i then it is sent to the TV as 1080i, if it's 576i, it's passed through as that.

Sure, I will.
I loaded the new upgrade yesterday. So far they have delivered what they said - I've had none of picture / audio dropouts that I experienced with the previous version. The networking seems to be working fine now. They have also included the ability to add subtitles to WMV files - I have not tried this as I cannot really see the point!
I will continue to monitor over the weekend and let you peoples know if I find anything else.

Has anyone had issues with getting channel 70 in HD? I have been getting the channel changing to the SD stream whenever Ch7 want to bump up the bitrate on the SD channel, but the HDRM will not rescan back to the HD feed when it is available. I need to do a manually initiated rescan of the channel to pick up the HD channel again. I am using the 4.7.29.3 version software, I did not notice this problem previously.

I wouldn't mind betting the demand for HD PVR's will rise in the next few months, with the advent of HD Multicasting at the end of the year.

I am a long time reader of this topic but rarely have anything to add, having encountered most of the bugs reported since I got my TEAC in Dec 06.
I have come across a problem which I dont remember seeing mentioned before (sorry if it has), though maybe it is related to the reported sound dropouts which luckily I dont get. It has only started since upgrading to 4.7.29.3. When I go into My Recordings, play a file, then stop it, when the machine comes back to the My Recording File list I get loud high pitched garbled sound- lots of screeches. By exiting the menu then going back in again, the sound is again fine for the program in the background, and also whilst watching files, but once you stop, I have to hit the mute button as fast as I can and get out of the menu. I am sending the sound via optical digital out to AV receiver. This is the only fault I have found with 4.7.29.3 apart from the networking issue.
Luke_sal: I noticed the Teac.com.au site was also down on the weekend which might explain the bouncing emails, I notice it is back up again - but not with the official firmware upgrade unfortunately - I am hanging out to get file export by network working again. Anyone apart from Stevie got hold of the latest beta version with the networking issue resolved? Teac dont answer my emails anymore, nor letters to the general manager!

I also am running the PVR by Optical out, and have not encountered this thru either firmware I have had (prv 4.7.24.1, been on the beta 4.7.29.3 for over a month). I do get the pic drop outs (on componant YUV output) and don't use the LAN connection so haven't had any drama's since 4.7.29.3.

On the other hand once the software is fixed, distribution is easy. You either download yourself, install on the root of USB drive and plug it in or get it automatically over the Ethernet if connected.
As I understand it, the software is from a French company called NetGem (they have a product called Netbox that uses the same or similar software) and they have to wait on NetGem to fix any problems.
I think that if we are patient, a new official release will be available before too long. In the meantime I am staying with version 4.7.24.1.

Hey forum, i havent been on here for ages which is a good thing cause my teac has been performing really well, i havent had hardly any of the issues people report in here, i have had the strange sounds when back at recordings menu though and ive only updated the first new firmware. Anyway the reason for me post is that i was hoping to find out some information on setting up the networking with a wireless router and laptop.
I tried a while ago to directly copnnect the laptop to the teac but failed miserably because im shite at setting up anything on a pc but im almost ready to move into my new place ive built and wana find out some pointers on how i should set up the network via wireless connection.
I have a Linksys wag546 v3 router which i will use and i want to be able to connect the laptop to the net via wireless and also connect the router to the PVR. I wasnt sure if the TEAC would connect wirelessly to the router so when the frame work was up i ran a conduit from the back of where the telly goes to the phone point location so i can run an ethernet cable directly from each device, im assuming direct cable connection would be quicker than wireless anyway?? then hopefully i can transfer recoreded files and downloaded stuff wirelessly to the router from the laptop then via cable to the TEAC or i could run a cable from the laptop to the router if needed for transfer?
Can someone please comment on what im saying as im just guessing on how all this goes and have a few weeks to work out how im going to do it before i get to move in. Any advice would be very welcomed, i know jack sh*t about this stuff lol

Glad to hear that your Teac has been stable.
You did the right thing in running a cat5e cable from your entertainment area to where your router would be. The Teac does not have wireless; if you really want wireless, you should be able to connect an wireless bridge (like this
one) to the Teac and communicate with your router that way ... but why bother, just use wired ethernet which is faster and has a more consistent bandwith than wireless.
You may find that when you're transferring video files between the laptop and Teac, you'd want to connect your laptop to the router using wired ethernet anyway because of the slower wireless transfer.

Normally you don't; however, shared folder access is broken in 4.7.29.3, hence, you need to serve your media files to the Teac using something like TVersity or Windows Media Connect. The latest beta firmware 4.7.31 supposedly fixes the shared folder issue, but it was only released to beta testers.

Hi There All,
I received my Teac HDRM7250 back from the repair place. It was suposed to be around 1 week to fix but that blew out to 3

Nevermind it is fixed now and (touch wood) will stay that way for a very long time.

Apparently after trying to solder in a few capicitors, resistors and an IC they ended up just replacing the whole power. It was taken to the TEAC service center today for further checks and they also loaded the latest beta firmware on to it. For those people waiting for the shared folders to be fixed it definately is fixed with this version. (4.7.31 28/sep/2007) I have only had an hour or so to play around with it and so far the menu navigation seem a lot more responsive and Shared folders works. If anyone has any requests about what this latest firmware does and doesn't do just ask and over a few days I will test these out. So far my unit feels more stable and I know that seems silly only having it for a few hours. This could also be the case except for shared folders with 4.7.29.3 but I never got to test that firmware. I was already fairly happy with the unit with the firmware before 4.7.29.3 (can't remember the number) but now it just somehow "feels better" or.... maybe its just in my mind.

Hopefully I won't be eating my words in the next week or so.

Anyway I thought I would offer to test the latest beta firmware (4.7.31) abilities so just post questions and I will do my best to test.

Unfortunately after approx 4 weeks of about 10 timer recordings/week working perfectly with 4.7.29.3 I got home today to find my unit unresponsive to the remote and the display showing "Checking hard disK" and also automatically cycling through the 3 display settings Blank Dim Bright Blank Dim Bright etc. After a soft reset by holding the button down, I went into the recordings menu to find todays recording supposedly there (correct name, correct time and length etc) but when I select it, it doesn't start, the menu disappears and it goes to live TV. Funny thing is when you press the info button, the info bar shows the name of the supposed recording despite showing live TV. Pressing stop goes back to Recording List Menu - get the garbled sound etc. Exit out and back to live TV. My first recording failure, and my first lock up since upgrading to 4.7.29.3. Hopefully we can all get a copy of 4.7.31 soon.

Anyway I thought I would offer to test the latest beta firmware (4.7.31) abilities so just post questions and I will do my best to test.

The PiP button now has been re mapped to be a "self destruct" button.
Teac assures all its customers that this will help sort out all the bugs in a simple button press.
Hope this helps.
